16 Celestial Degrees

We can very soon attain sixteen celestial degrees. The sixteen celestial degrees are given below:
  1. Art of Relaxation If we live our life with the definite belief that the supreme soul is the real director and actor and we are only His instruments, we can always remain contented and relaxed even in illness. The knowledge that this is all on account of our own past deeds enables us to be stable in varying-situations, viewing them as various scenes of the pre – destined world drama. The picture of Vishnu on shesh shaiya (serpent bed) in the ocean is symbolic of the art of relaxation.
  2. Art of Dealing or Behaviour – Our behaviour towards all should be such that it is full of natural and selfless love, respect, divine family feeling and sweetness. Such a person easily wins over everyone’s heart and rules over it. It is said that handsome is that which handsome does.
  3. Art of Keeping Healthy – Swasth (Health) in other words Swa (Atma i.e. Soul) + Asth (sthit) means performing all deeds in soul- conscious stage. It is the key to be healthy. By considering ourselves as kings of anxiety less land we can always remain happy because there is no diet comparable to happiness. Clean drinking water, fresh food and fresh air have important place in maintaining good health. Baba used to say that for remaining healthy and happy, go on earning good wishes of all along with proper meditation and medication. Understanding the deep secret of drama and remaining happy in all situations- is the art of keeping healthy.
  4. Art of Teaching - The Adi Pita Brahrna Baba with his sweet actions, loving spiritual vision, positive attitude and behaviour used to teach the children the lesson of belongingness. The essence of art of teaching is loveful behaviour. Saint Kabir Das has said this in his meaningful words “Studying books after books, the world has passed by, and none has become really knowledgeable. One who learns two and a half lettered word ‘love, becomes truly knowledgeable.” Though there are four subjects in this Godly knowledge, Baba used to teach it in such a way as if he was teaching single subject and was teaching the same like a story. There used to be intimacy between the teacher and the student. If he had to point out some weakness to anyone, he used to do so individually in private and when he had to praise anybody, he used to do it openly in front of all due to which his self respect always remained intact and he used to transform himself Shri Krishna’s teaching to Arjuna while sitting on the chariot represents this art of teaching.
  5. Art of Letter Writing – Baba’s letters used to be the source of inspiration in everybody’s life. If Baba was to draw anyone’s attention towards any of his deficiency, then he would first shower praises on him, then point out his deficiency in a symbolic (beautiful) way so that he would not feel himself degraded. Baba’s letters created desire for repeated reading. Baba used to win others through his letters. On reading his letters, the soul used to surrender itself to him.
  6. The Art of Sustenance – Like a mother Baba used to brings up and guide the children with great love, sacrifice, service and with tirelessness. Baba used to say, “Do not take rest after holding an exhibition, fair or doing any other service; follow it up, then there would be result. If some seeker does not come due to some reason, send ‘murli’ or a letter or some ‘Prasad’ (Toli) or allot him some service, then he would keep on coming in contact.”
  7. Art of Marching ahead – Our goal in life should always be elevated and we should go on making efforts to attain that goal. Whatever challenges (tests) come on the way, always go on marching ahead. Our progress would become source of inspiration for others too.
  8. Art of Entertainment – Baba used to entertain and make children laugh while imparting knowledge. He used to clarify several deep secrets of knowledge in a very easy and entertaining manner. He used to cross adverse situations very happily.Baba used to entertain and make children occasionally laugh and would say, “Always keeps on smiling like flowers.”
  9. Art of Sweet Talking – There is a saying “Tongue can bestow one with a throne, or can also lead one to gallows”. With sweet words, a person crosses many difficult situations. In soul-conscious stage, a man al ways speaks sweet words. A poet has truly said: ‘Sweet word is a medicine and bitter word is an arrow; It affects the entire body though the hearing path is narrow.
  10. The Art of Making one’s Own – Baba used to fill so much confidence in children by loving and praising them that their virtues began to develop and they used to perform wonders. Baba used to fill hope in hopeless souls. He used to win over others hearts in such a way that they never desired to stay away from Baba. On meeting Baba everyone used to feel very light and happy.
  11. The Art of Leadership – Leader’s task is to awaken people and encourage them to progress. Baba effortlessly turned every effort- maker into a leader or a teacher. He engaged everyone in active service as per his qualities so that he must develop his potentiality. When the intellect is engaged in creative activity, the destructive activities automatically cease. As a stone becomes worship-worthy when rolling with current of water, similarly by serving others gradually they become valuable gems. Thus Baba encouraged everyone to do progress by assigning him work as per his ability or interest.
  12. The Art of Learning – Learning implies transformation in one’s life. Brahma Baba, even after attaining old age, always used to consider himself just a student. This attitude took him to the peak of the heights. Learning needs inquisitiveness. Baba, while explaining the importance of spiritual education, used to say, “Children who love Murli also love Murlidhar (Deliverer of Murli). Therefore never miss morning class of Murli (Spiritual discourse).” Similarly when Baba used to address even old persons as ‘children’ they also acquired alertness for learning and study.
  13. The Art of Transformation or Moulding – Baba used to say that after understanding one’s duty and aim of life, it is not difficult to mould oneself and transforming one’s life style and the old sanskars. In Brahma Baba’s own life, such transformation was evident. The day he experienced the vision’ I am Vishnu so are you; from that very day the transformation started taking place. Quick efforts means quick transformation, i.e., ‘immediate charity results in great achievements. Baba adopted this technique in his life as a great formula.
  14. The Art of Changing Waste into Best – People, convert the waste iron or gold into new articles by melting. Similarly, after making others to give up their old sanskars (tendencies) and old abits, Baba used to inspire them to transform these into good habits. He always uphold the pious thought to transform the vicious world into viceless. Baba also used to transform some old useless things in the yagya into some new useful things.
  15. The Art of administration – For establishing the New World, transforming each and every one’s sanskars and habits is necessary which is really a difficult task. The greatest artist or administrator is one who can complete a task with minimum means. Baba’s motto was- ‘Begin the job and means will automatically start coming by themselves’. Baba always used to give an opportunity to everyone to do something or the other. Baba’s administration was so excellent that everybody demanded work because everyone saw the work as service and service as the basis for future rewards/achievement. Here, there is neither any supervisor nor any manager and no body to show his ego or might. That is why, in this administration, there is never any strike of work or a holiday. Every day, the class of Murli (learning) takes place at punctual time.
  16. The art of Absorbence – It was observed in Baba’ s life that if any child used to put his/her confidence in Baba, Baba used to absorb his weakness like an ocean and never expressed it to others. As such, everyone used to relate his / her mental agony to Baba with an open mind. Ganeshji is shown with a big belly as the symbol of art of absorbence.

The (different) titles given for 16 arts

Technique:Reiki

Usui Reiki Ryōhō does not use any medication or instruments, but uses looking, blowing, light tapping, and touching. According to Frank Arjava Petter, Usui touched the diseased parts of the body, he massaged them, tapped them lightly, stroked them, blew on them, fixed his gaze upon them for two to three minutes, and specifically gave them energy, and used a technique commonly referred to as palm healing as a form of complementary and alternative medicine.

The Usui Shiki Ryoho 5 Principles
Just for today, I will let go of anger.
Just for today, I will let go of worry.
Today, I will count my many blessings.
Today, I will do my work honestly.
Today, I will be kind to every living creature.

Just for today, I will let go of anger.

"Do not blame others by pointing out their faults. You will find upon self-examination That the faults you see in others are in you. When you correct yourself, the world becomes correct."

Just for today, I will let go of worry.

"Nothing is cast away by the mind. As a consequence, grief, worry, and misery continue to simmer in it. If only the mind can be taught renunciation, one can become a spiritually serene person.

Today, I will count my many blessings.

"To those who have an insight into life, everything has meaning. To those whose eyes are open, everything fits into place."

Today, I will do my work honestly.

"Truth is your Father, Love is your Mother, Wisdom is your son, Peace is your daughter, Devotion is your brother, and spiritual seekers are your friends."

Today, I will be kind to every living creature.

"Do not do unto another what you do not like to be done unto yourself. For the other is you."

The essence of Reiki is to channel the naturally existing flow of Chi - Life Force Energy, in order to re-establish a balance in an individual’s energetic field.

Reiki is a positive and wonderfully natural Life Force Energy that intelligently knows where it needs to flow within an individual in order to help re-establish a balance in an individual’s energetic field. Reiki is gently channeled throughout all of the Seven Major Chakras as well as on four main planes: Physical, Emotional, Spiritual and Psychological by a certified Reiki Practitioner or a certified Reiki Master.

The Path of Truth

Simply undo what you have done in the way of making your prison house, and there you are God already.

To realize the Truth is to become the master of the Universe, and to entertain desires is to acknowledge bondage, thraldom and slavery of the things of this world, flesh objects.

If you enjoy the Truth, you will no longer be able to enjoy worldly pleasures. Enjoy worldly pleasures and Truth will elude your grasp, get ahead of you.

Do your work, enjoy your work, because your work by itself is pleasure, because work is the other name of realization.

If your father stands in the way of your realizing the Truth, tread over him, go Beyond him, just as Prahlad, a hero in India, forsook his father, because the latter stood in the way of his realizing the Truth.
If your mother stands in the way of your realizing the Truth, forsake her. This is what the New Testament says. The Hindu Bible also says the same. Love Truth for the sake of your parents. Love and honour your parents as far as they do not retard your progress toward the Truth.
If your brother stands in the way of your realizing the Truth, shake him off just as Bibhishan did.
If your wife stands in the way of your realizing the Truth, cast her aside just as Bhartrihari did.
If your husband stands in the way of your realizing the truth, throw him off just as Mira did.
If your preceptor, your religious guide, stands in the way of your realizing the Truth, shake him off, cast him overboard just as Bhishma did because, your real relative, your truest friend is Truth and Truth alone.
All other relations and companions are only fleeting, for a day only, but Truth is with you always. Truth is your real self; Truth is nearer to you than our parents. Truth is nearer to you than your wife, children, friends, etc. Respect Truth more than kings, parents, children, father, mother, any one

Thus, Make your friends on the principle of favouring your righteousness, select no friend on the principle of favouring your evil nature.

If your eyes stand in the way of your realizing the Truth, poke them out. If your ears tempt you and keep you backward, cut them out. If your wife, money, property, wealth, or anything stands in the way, away with it.

Act as if you were always in the presence of the Great Master, ever face to face with the Divinity, all the time in the sight of the Beloved.

Ramanujacharya

Ramanuja delivered his final message to his disciples: "Shed your ego. Love the devotees of God. Serve the cause of mankind who is God's children. Nobody is infallible; do not humiliate any one. What is of supreme importance is purity of mind and deed."

"If I can bring deliverance to so many, I do not mind being condemned to hell," he said, and spread his spiritual message to even the lowliest of classes of people.

Ramanuja particularly laid stress on the merciful nature of God. God possesses numerous attributes like truth, grace and beauty. If we worship God devotedly, he will bless us. We should not make much of personal happiness. Those who love God are the real great men irrespective of their caste or religion. Ramanuja loved all mankind without making any distinction between man and man. He taught his disciples the virtues of humility and equality.

Madhwacharya

"By whatever name you may call, God is One."

One’s religion is not decided by birth but by his nature and personality. A ‘chandala’ (untouchable) who treads the spiritual path is a better being than a brahmin who is ignorant of that path and puts on an artificial appearance."

"This life is a reflection. The original image is God. We should understand the original through the reflection. You cannot comprehend Him without realising your soul. First, understand yourself; then you can understand Him."

"Do not make a fuss about how should address god. You can you address him in any language and by any name. Know that there is no word in the world without His name. Apart from the language we speak, the entire nature extols Him. The sounds of the sea, the wind that blows, the chirping of the birds, the hooting of animals - all these are nothing but homage to God. Learn to recognize His existence in all the voices and everywhere. Live with godliness."

"This world is an illusion; only God is true," said Shankara. "God is the soul of the universe; hence this body is also real," said Ramanuja. "This universe is a playful creation of God. Let us not try to diminish it by denouncing it," said Madhwa.

"People of our country should be strong both in mind and body" - this was his life-message.

"Never forget your duty and its related action. Real duty is your helping others who suffer more than you. This worldly duty is the 'fee' you pay God who is the Lord of the universe.

"The world is God's wonderful creation. Try to understand His greatness. Also, know your own limitations and surrender yourself to Him. This is the only path for your salvation,"

Uttara Gita

Arjuna, after the successful outcome of the battle of Kurukshetra, amidst the pleasures of rank, riches and prosperity, had forgotten the priceless instructions imparted to him by Sri Krishna on the eve of that memorable battle. He now asked Keshava to expound again the secrets of the science of Brahman.

Chapter I The Knower of the Tattvas
5. He is called Brahman who, devoid of all desires, and by the mode of yoga, sits in that state of meditation in which he assimilates his own Self-mantra (pranava) with the hamsa (Paramatman).

8. He who is ever able to retain his life-breath within himself, both at the time of waking and rest, can extend the period of his life over a thousand years.

11. Freed from both nostrils, wherein the life-breath disappears, thereby fix thy mind, O Partha, and meditate upon the All-Supreme Ishvara.

12. Think of Shiva there as devoid of all limitations of life, immaculate but lustreless, without mind or intellect.

16. He that has acquired the supreme knowledge (vijnana) by the aid of jnana and has learnt to place the object of this knowledge in his heart, and has thus achieved peace of mind, such a person requires no yoga for further practice, and no meditation for further conception.

19. As a husbandman throws away the husks after threshing out the corn, so does also an intelligent person give up the study of books after he has gained knowledge from them.

21. As milk is not needed by a person already satiated with the drink of nectar, so also the Vedas are not needed by a man who has already known the Supreme Deity.

22. Thrice fortunate is the yogin who has thus satiated his thirst by the nectar of knowledge; he is henceforth bound to no karma, as he had become the knower of the tattvas.

26. The jivatman, although seemingly distant from the Paramatman, is still very close to it; and though it has a body, it is still without a body; the jivatman itself is pure, omnipotent and self-evident.

27. Although it is apparently in the body, it is still not in the body; it is not affected by any change of the body, nor does it take part in any enjoyment pertaining to the body, nor can it be bound down or conditioned by anything that binds the body.

31. He who has become capable of holding his mind, wholly and without support, and fused with the akasha, and of cognizing the unmodifiable One, his condition is called the state of samadhi

32. Though living upon air, he that daily practices samadhi to remain content with the drink of the nectar of yoga becomes capable of destroying the destroyer.

34. The yogin who thus apprehends the No-thingness of the atman becomes emancipated from all virtue and vice.

38. He who, having purified his mind, contemplates the pure Paramatman, and perceives his own Self as the one vast indivisible whole of the manifested cosmos, becomes serene by knowing Brahman.

43. The destiny produced by the consequences of virtue and vice, the essence of the five bhutas – the mind, the five senses and the controlling devatas of the five organs of karma (action) – all these by reason of the ahankara of the mind accompany the jiva as long as it remains ignorant of the knowledge of the tattvas.

52. The yogins see the atman within when they shut out all their external senses; for such a person when leaving the body, his buddhi passes on, and with the passing of the buddhi his ignorance also vanishes.

Chapter II Nadis and Lokas
4. When, by acquiring knowledge, the knower becomes the object of knowledge itself, then he frees himself from all bondage by virtue of his knowledge, and needs no more practice of yoga or of meditation.

8. Wherever a jnanin may die, and in whatever matter his death may occur, he becomes one with the atman when he leaves his body, even as the akasha in the pot becomes one with its parent akasha when the pot is broken, regardless of where or how it breaks.

9. Know by the twofold experience of conscious witnessing and unconscious ignorance that the atman which pervades the whole body is beyond the three states of consciousness – waking, dreaming and dreamless sleep.

10. He who has been able to dwell with his mind for one moment on a single point (bindu) frees himself from the sins of his past hundred births.

15. Sushumna is a fine nerve that passes between the ida and pingala; from this sushumna all the jnananadis [sensory nerves] take their birth. Hence it is called the jnananadi.

16. The sun, the moon and the other devatas, the fourteen lokas of Bhur, Bhuvas etc., the ten Dikas [directions], east, west, etc., the sacred places, the seven oceans, the Himalaya and other mountains, the seven islands of jambu, etc., the seven sacred rivers, Ganga, etc., the four Vedas, all the sacred philosophies, the sixteen vowels and twenty-four consonants, the Gayatri and other sacred mantras, the eighteen Puranas and all the Upapuranas included, the three gunas, mahat itself, the root of all the jivas, the jivas and their atman, the ten breaths, the whole world, in fact,  consisting of all these, exists in the sushumna.

31. In the heart dwells the Maharloka, the Janaloka exists in the throat, the Taparloka between the two eyebrows, whilst the Sattvaloka exists in the head.

32. This Brahmanda dissolves itself into water, the water is dried up by fire, the air swallows up the fire, and the akasha drinks the air in turn.

33. But the akasha itself is assimilated in the mind, the mind in buddhi, the buddhi in ahankara, the ahankara in chitta in kshetrajna.

36. He who has been able to acquire the knowledge of the tattvas such that the jivatman is absorbed in the Paramatman, even as the akasha of the pot is absorbed in the mahakasha, becomes undoubtedly free from the chain of ignorance, and goes into the sphere of the Light of Supreme Knowledge and Wisdom.

39. At the time when the body oscillates backward and forward, the Brahmana who hesitates to believe that he is Brahman fails to understand the great subtle atman even if he be conversant with the four Vedas.

41. Food, sleep, fear and sexual desire, man has in common with brutes; it is only the addition of knowledge that makes him a man; if, therefore, he is devoid of this he is but equal to a brute.

42. In the morning a man performs the necessities of life, in the middle of the day he fills his stomach with food, in the evening he satisfies the cravings of his sexual desire and afterwards falls into the embraces of deep sleep – such is the case with beasts also.

43. Hundred millions of jivas and thousands of nadabindus are constantly destroyed and absorbed in the All-Purity.

44. Therefore, the conviction that “I am Brahman“ is known to be the sole cause of emancipation (moksha) for great souls (mahatmas).

45. Two words bind and liberate the jivas respectively: the firm belief of ‘I‘ and ‘mine‘ holds fast and binds the jiva down, and the absence or want of the same liberates him from all bondage.

46. When the mind becomes free from all desires and passions, then only the idea of duality ceases. When there arises that state of Advaita feeling [all in One and One in all], there dwells the Supreme Foot of Brahman.

47. As a hungry person simply wastes his energy in vain when he strikes the air with blows, so too a reader of the Vedas and other shastras simply wastes his time and energy if, notwithstanding his study, he fails to realize “I am Brahman.“

Chapter III Aham Brahmasmi
1. Shastras are innumerable, and it takes a long time even to grasp their real meaning; life is short, but the obstacles are many; therefore, the intelligent should only take the real meaning as a swan (hamsa) separates the milk out of milky water.

2. The Puranas, the Bharatam, the Vedas, the various other shastras, wife, children and family, are simply so many obstacles on the path of practice of yoga.

4. Viewing life to be very impermanent, seek to know only the indestructible Sat (Existence); give up the unnecessary reading of books, and worship Truth.

5. Out of all the beautiful objects that exist in this world, most are intended either to please the tongue or give sexual pleasure. Thou canst relinquish the pleasures of both; then where is the need of this world?

10. As the serene bright sky may be seen with all its forms, names and colors, so too he who is able to realize the idea that “I am Brahman“—in spite of all forms, names and colors is—alone able to see verily the eternal Paramatman.

12. He who has been able to identify himself with the whole cosmos—as the one Brahman—should carefully avoid the desire to eat every man’s food and to barter all sorts of goods.

13. Where the yogins stay for one second or even half a second, that place becomes sacred like Kurukshetra, Prayaga and Naimisharanya, because the thought of spirituality even for one brief second has a greater effect than one thousand million sacrifices.

14. The yogin who apprehends this cosmos as nothing but the one Brahman at once destroys both virtue and vice, and consequently for him there is neither friend nor enemy, happiness nor misery, gain nor loss, good nor bad, honor nor dishonor, praise nor blame; all these become alike to him.

17. O Arjuna, he who does not covet material objects never takes birth again in this world.

Action and Relaxation

There are two things, Pravritti and Nivritti (action and relaxation).
When you are in action, effort is needed and when you are in relaxation effortlessness is needed. They go hand in hand. But we do it the other way around. When we are relaxed, we keep thinking, wanting to act, and when we are in action we say, 'It’ll happen if God is willing'.
This is not what one should do.

When you are acting then give it your 100%, put self-effort. Once you have done that, then sit and let go. You make an effort to go to a clinic and lie down at the massage table. But once you’re on the table, then the masseur does the rest. In the same way, make an effort to come and sit for meditation, but once you sit for meditation, then no effort is required. Know that you’re being taken care of.

If you have a train to catch you need to make an effort, you cannot sit at home and keep saying that you have to catch the train. But once you are in the train, there is no point in running up and down the aisle, it is not going to take you any faster. Once you are in the train, you have to sit down and relax. So, both effort and effortlessness are required.
