Seven Spiritual Laws of Success

Seven Spiritual Laws of Success by Deepak Chopra

1. APPLYING THE LAW OF PURE POTENTIALITY
I will put the Law of Pure Potentiality into effect by making a commitment to take the following steps:
(1) I will get in touch with the field of pure potentiality by taking time each day to be silent, to just Be. I will also sit alone in silent meditation at least twice a day for approximately thirty minutes in the morning and thirty minutes in the evening.
(2) I will take time each day to commune with nature and to silently witness the intelligence within every living thing. I will sit silently and watch a sunset, or listen to the sound of the ocean or a stream, or simply smell the scent of a flower. In the ecstasy of my own silence, and by communing with nature, 1 will enjoy the lire throb of ages, the field of pure potentiality and unbounded creativity.
(3) I will practice non-judgment. I will begin my day with the statement, “Today, I shall judge nothing that occurs,” and throughout the day I will remind myself not to judge.

2.APPLYING THE LAW OF GIVING
I will put the Law of Giving into effect by making a commitment to take the following steps:
(1) Wherever I go, and whoever I encounter, I will bring them a gift. The gift may be a compliment, a flower, or a prayer. Today, I will give something to everyone I come into contact with, and so I will begin the process of circulating joy, wealth and affluence in my life and in the lives of others.
(2) Today I will gratefully receive all the gifts that life has to offer me. I will receive the gifts of nature: sunlight and the sound of birds singing, or spring showers or the first snow of winter. I will also be open to receiving from others, whether it be in the form of a material gift, money, a compliment, or a prayer.
(3) I will make a commitment to keep wealth circulating in my life by giving and receiving life’s most precious gifts: the gifts of caring, affection, appreciation, and love. Each time I meet someone, I will silently wish them happiness, joy, and laughter.

3. APPLYING THE LAW OF KARMA OR CAUSE AND EFFECT
I will put the Law of Karma into effect by making a commitment to take the following steps:
(1) Today I will witness the choices I make in each moment. And in the mere witnessing of these choices, I will bring them to my conscious awareness. I will know that the best way to prepare for any moment in the future is to be fully conscious in the present.
(2) Whenever I make a choice, I will ask myself two questions: “What are the consequences of this choice that I’m making?” and “Will this choice bring fulfillment and happiness to me and also to those who are affected by this choice?”
(3) I will then ask my heart for guidance and be guided by its message of comfort or discomfort. If the choice feels comfortable, I will plunge ahead with abandon. If the choice feels uncomfortable, I will pause and see the consequences of my action with my inner vision. This guidance will enable me to make spontaneously correct choices for myself and for all those around me.

4. APPLYING THE LAW OF LEAST EFFORT
I will put the Law of Least Effort into effect by making a commitment to take the following steps:
(1) I will practice Acceptance. Today I will accept people, situations, circumstances, and events as they occur. I will know that this moment is as it should be, because the whole universe is as it should be. I will not struggle against the whole universe by struggling against this moment. My acceptance is total and complete. I accept things as they are this moment, not as I wish they were.
(2) Having accepted things as they are, I will take Responsibility for my situation and for all those events I see as problems. I know that taking responsibility means not blaming anyone or anything for my situation (and this includes myself). I also know that every problem is an opportunity in disguise, and this alertness to opportunities allows me to take this moment and transform it into a greater benefit.
(3) Today my awareness will remain established in Defenselessness. I will relinquish the need to defend my point of view. I will feel no need to convince or persuade others to accept my point of view. I will remain open to all points of view and not be rigidly attached to any one of them.

5. APPLYING THE LAW OF INTENTION AND DESIRE
I will put the Law of Intention and Desire into effect by making a commitment to take the following steps:
(1) I will make a list of all my desires. I will carry this list with me wherever I go. I will look at this list before I go into my silence and meditation. I will look at it before I go to sleep at night. I will look at it when I wake up in the morning.
(2) I will release this list of my desires and surrender it to the womb of creation, trusting that when things don’t seem to go my way, there is a reason, and that the cosmic plan has designs for me much grander than even those that I have conceived.
(3) I will remind myself to practice present-moment awareness in all my actions. I will refuse to allow obstacles to consume and dissipate the quality of my attention in the present moment. I will accept the present as it is, and manifest the future through my deepest, most cherished intentions and desires.

6. APPLYING THE LAW OF DETACHMENT
I will put the Law of Detachment into effect by making a commitment to take the following steps:
(1) Today I will commit myself to detachment. 1 will allow myself and those around me the freedom to be as they are. I will not rigidly impose my idea of how things should be. I will not force solutions on problems, thereby creating new problems. I will participate in everything with detached involvement.
(2) Today I will factor in uncertainty as an essential ingredient of my experience. In my willingness to accept uncertainty, solutions will spontaneously emerge out of the problem, out of the confusion, disorder, and chaos. The more uncertain things seem to be, the more secure I will feel, because uncertainty is my path to freedom. Through the wisdom of uncertainty, I will find my security.
(3) I will step into the field of all possibilities and anticipate the excitement that can occur when I remain open to an infinity of choices. When I step into the field of all possibilities, I will experience all the fun, adventure, magic, and mystery of life.

7. APPLYING THE LAW OF “DHARMA” OR PURPOSE IN LIFE
I will put the Law of Dharma into effect by making a commitment to take the following steps:
(1) Today I will lovingly nurture the god or goddess in embryo that lies deep within my soul. I will pay attention to the spirit within me that animates both my body and my mind. I will awaken myself to this deep stillness within my heart. I will carry the consciousness of timeless, eternal Being in the midst of time-bound experience.
(2) I will make a list of my unique talents. Then I will list all the things that I love to do while expressing my unique talents. When 1 express my unique talents and use them in the service of humanity, I lose track of time and create abundance in my life as well as in the lives of others.
(3) I will ask myself daily, “How can I serve?” and “How can I help?” The answers to these questions will allow me to help and serve my fellow human beings with love.

7 Steps to Forgiving Yourself (or Anyone Else)

1. Responsibility
Tell yourself you will no longer assign blame for the action.

2. Feeling
Recall what the incident felt like at the time. Feel it in your body.

3. Labeling
Put an emotion to that feeling. Was it anger? Fear? Sadness?

4. Expressing
Write down what happened in the incident in the first person, then write it down as the other person. Finally, write it down as an objective 3rd person.

5. Sharing
Look at the person next to you and share your story, or share it with someone you trust.

6. Releasing
Tear (or burn) up that paper.

7. Celebrating
Stand up and celebrate the release. Maybe do a little dance.

Levitation

Questioner: I understand that freedom from the elements is more important than mastery. But something I always wondered about is levitation. Is it really possible for yogis to do this? Or is it a myth? If it is possible, can you explain how it happens? And can you levitate, Sadhguru?

Sadhguru: (Laughs) Is it possible? It is possible. How does it happen? There are certain ways through which you become less and less available to gravity. There are pracitices - kriyas - through which this can happen. Because of this, one may levitate; it is possible. Or, when your kundalini rises with tremendous force, you may not levitate, but you can see your body just taking off by itself and landing. It does not stay up there, but it takes off and lands, takes off and lands. With my own eyes I have seen people in cross-legged positions cover fifty to sixty feet in one leap. Just one leap! There are those who could win an Olympic gold medal in long jump, just sitting. With a little effort when the energy is high. it happens.
.....

There are many ways you can make yourself less available to gravity. Can I do it? I want to walk on the planet. I have no intention of floating! Certainly there are people who follow the path of hata yoga who can do these feats. It is of no life-significance. Now, if you float or if you levitate for a few minutes in a day, in what way does it alter your life?

Our whole effort here is to make sure that you walk through life very much on the ground. It is to make sure that you can walk through life. No matter what happens with your life, no matter what kind of situations you face, you go through life untouched, like a child, as if you are just born. Howerer many things happen in you life, it does not matter. Even if everything goes dead wrong and every day is a crisis, you still go untouched through life. This is a miracle. I want all of you to perform this miracle. On your deathbed, if you are the way you were when you were just born, that means you have performed a wonderful miracle. It is possible. An that is the miracle we are interested in.

Floating in the air, walking upon the water - what will you do with it? For three days if you walk upon the water, it will be fine when you get all the attention. But every day if you start walking on the water, nobody will look at you. They will all take out their speed boats, and then you will also wish you had one. isn't it?

Upadesha Saram

1.  Karma must ever yield its proper fruit,
For thus it is ordained by God, Himself,
Supreme Creator. Then is Karma God?
No, for it is itself insentient.

2.  Of Karma the results must pass away,
Yet it leaves seeds which in their turn will sprout
And throw the actor back into the flood
Of Karma’s ocean. Karma cannot save.

3.  But acts performed without attachment’s urge
And solely for the service of the Lord
Will cleanse the mind and indicate the way
Which leads at length unto the final goal.

4.  Worship, reciting of God’s Holy Name,
And meditation, mainly are performed
By body, voice and mind, and they excel
Each other in the order here set down.

5.  If we but recognise this Universe
Of eightfold form as form of God, Himself,
And serve in adoration all the world.
This is of God most excellent worship.

6.  Constant repeating of the Holy Name
Is more than praise, at length the voice will sink
To silent repetition in the Heart,
And in this way is meditation learnt.

7.  Better than meditation that recurs
In broken fits and starts is that which is
A steady ceaseless flow, like to the course
Of falling oil or a perennial stream.

8.  Worship of God as in no way distinct
From him who worships, or in other words
Thinking that .He is I., is better far
Than any other kind of worshipping.

9.  To rest in the Real Being, that transcends
Our every thought, by reason of the strength
Of our devotion to some thing conceived;
This of supreme devotion is the truth.

10. To be absorbed again into one’s Source (Heart)
Is Karma, Bhakti, Yoga, Jnanam, all
These things in truth. Or put in other words
Good works, Devotion, Union, Gnosis, too.

11. As by the fowler birds are caught in nets
So by the holding of the breath within
The mind can be restrained. This a device
That will effect absorption of the mind.

12. For mind and life expressed in thought and act,
That is with thought and action as their function,
Diverge and branch like two boughs of a tree,
But both of them spring from one single stem.

13. Suppression of the mind in two ways comes,
Absorption and extinction; mind absorbed
Will live again, but mind which is destroyed
Will never more revive, for it is dead.

14. When, by the means of restraint of the breath,
The mind has been controlled, then make it flow
Along a single current, that achieved
Its form will then entirely disappear.

15. For the Great Sage for whom all form of mind
Has disappeared and who is ever one
With the Reality, there is no Karma more,
For He, indeed, the True Self has become.

16. When mind has given the sense-objects up
Which are external and has drawn within,
And has perceived its own refulgent form,
Then verily alone True Gnosis is.

17. When pondering with constant vigilance
Upon the actual nature of the mind
One finds that there is no such thing as mind;
This, of a truth, is the straight course for all.

18. The mind is nothing but a lot of thoughts,
Of all these many thoughts ’tis the thought ’I’
That is the root. So we can see by that
The mind in truth is only the thought ’I’.

19. Whence, therefore, does this ’I-thought’ have its birth?
With vigilant and ever active mind
Seek this, and crestfallen the ’I’ becomes.
The search, itself, the quest of Wisdom is.

20. This search pursued till ’I’ has disappeared
There now vibrates the ’I-I’ all alone,
The quest is finished, there’s no more to seek.
For this is really the Infinite Self.

21. This is eternally the true import
Of the term ’I’. For in the deepest sleep
We do not cease to be. We still exist
Even though here there is no sense of ’I’.

22. As I am pure Existence, I am not
The body nor the senses, mind nor life,
Nor even ignorance, for all these things
Are quite insentient and so unreal.

23. As there is not a second consciousness
To know Existence, it must follow that
Existence is itself that consciousness;
So I myself am that same consciousness.

24. In their real nature as Existence both
Creatures and the Creator are the same,
The Unique Principle. In attributes
And knowledge only is a difference found.

25. Realization of the Self alone,
Eliminating all its attributes;
Is God-Realization of a truth,
As it is He that shines forth as the Self.

26. To be the Self that is to know the Self,
As there is no duality in Self.
This is Thanmaya-Nistha, or the state
Of absolutely being That in truth.

27. That knowledge is true knowledge which transcends
Knowledge and ignorance both equally.
And this alone is truth. For there is no
Subject or object there that can be known.

28. If one can only realize at Heart
What one’s true nature is, one then will find
That ’tis Infinite Wisdom, Truth and Bliss,
Without beginning and without an end.

29. Remaining in this state of Supreme Bliss,
Devoid of bondage and of freedom too,
Is found to be a state in which one is
Rapt in perpetual service of the Lord.

30. By ardent quest and shedding ego’s veil
Realize the Self, the One that’s ego-less,
And function thus; the sole right penance this.
So teaches Bhagavan Sri Ramana,
Who is the SELF of everything that is.

- Ramana Maharshi

Communication is Fusion

Communication is not necessarily a conversation, physical relationship, or being at a party, or even being married. Communication is a moment in which you fuse with someone and understand him, and make him understand you. There is a moment when you see his viewpoint and he sees yours, and you both see the common denominator in them.

Have you ever had such communication? If not, use your creative imagination and create one.

Exercise on communication:

Find moments in your life in which you had communication with people. You will see that most of our tensions, disappointments, sorrows, pain, and anxiety are the result of a break in our communication.

The moment you begin to communicate you find treasures in your nature and release them as sources of energy.

Of course there are many different levels of communication. There is communication with your Inner Guide, or even with your own core, with the cores of others, with a Great One, with Invisible Powers, and so on.

You can even communicate with a flower, a bird, a tree, a mountain, a star, an ocean, a river. See what is happening to you when you communicate.

After you understand what communication is, try to communicate with someone with whom communication was impossible in the past, and try to find what the obstacle is and how you can remove it.

Your creative imagination can do anything you want. Just use it.

You will find many obstacles to remove. For example, there is fear, or certain memories in which the person may have deceived you, or those times when you deceived the person.

In communication there is a moment in which you forget yourself and identify with the other party, while the other party is doing the same thing.

Trust and sincerity pave the way for communication. Joy illuminates the way. Freedom intensifies the unity. Beauty uplifts the communication to higher and higher levels.

People sometimes do not need time to learn to communicate. Some can communicate instantaneously. This is a sign that in the past they had close contacts with each other.

Communication is not necessarily the acceptance or rejection of ideas, visions, or viewpoints of people. Acceptance and rejection are lower mental activities. Communication starts on the higher mental plane and proceeds toward higher planes where people are not interested in differences but in similarities of goals and purposes.

Communication is the result of an intuitive feeling that the one with whom you are communicating is you.

The Law of Replacement

The Law of Replacement is a law in Nature and in human psychology. Replacement is the cause of balance. Nature replaces that which is removed or burned away with that which can take the place of what has disappeared. Replacement is an incessant process in Nature and in Man.

When something is gone, something else appears. Sometimes the new replacement improves conditions; sometimes it creates problems.

The eternal, unchangeable side needs the phenomenal, changing side to balance itself. Sometimes a physical object is replaced with an emotional object, a mental object, and so on. But, replacement is always in effect.

The Law of Replacement uses actual objects, imagination, ideas, concepts, or thoughts to replace what has disappeared. The three worlds are always in balance. When replacement is simultaneous on three levels, happiness results. When it is partial, there is despair, pain, and suffering until replacement is complete on all three levels.

Spare parts of everything are kept in storage, ready to be used as replacements. The replacement process in Nature is always in order, but man makes many mistakes. He replaces wrong things due to his emotions, glamors, and vanity. He replaces his reality or facts with his fantasies, and thus disturbs the Law of Replacement.

Right replacement is the foundation of balance and happiness. There is no progress without an opportunity for replacement. The Law of replacement is a natural or a conscious and deliberate process. Nature takes nothing away from any living form without replacing it with something.

Advanced individuals and nations are those which make deliberate and conscious replacement. To replace in a better way needs a better ability to contact Higher Sources.

In Nature, nothing fades away without creating its higher correspondence. The higher your contact, the better will be the object of replacement. This means that we must not replace the wrong object or the right object with an obsolete or equal object but with a higher object that will function better. All that exists is within our reach; we must only develop expanding contacts.

In relation to a human being, this law, can be used spiritually or in a distorted way. For example, the replacing “entity” could be

a) a glamor
b) an illusion
c) a vanity
d) an ego
e) a physical, emotional, or mental elemental
f) an entity
g) the human soul.

It is only when replacement is handled by the Soul that human progress begins. Replacement carried out by the rest of the “entities” either keeps the person on the same level of consciousness or leads him to degeneration. The change of consciousness from a lower plane to a higher one is also carried on under the Law of Replacement.

Prayer, Meditation, and contemplation are methods of replacement. Enlightenment is also a process of replacement.
