RAMAKRISHNA PARAMAHANSA QUOTES

The Divine Mother revealed to me: There is only One, without a second -  it is Sat-chit-ananda alone who has assumed different forms. God Himself has become the living beings and the phenomenal world - indeed everything. It is He who has become food.

The winds of grace blow all the time. All we need to do is set our sails.

As one and the same water is called by different names by different people, some calling it 'water', some 'vari', some 'Aqua', and some 'pani, so the one Sachchidananda, Existence-Intelligence-Bliss Absolute is invoked by some as God, by some as Allah, by some as Hari, and by others as Brahman.

He is born in vain, who having attained the human birth, so difficult to get, does not attempt to realize God in this very life.

Whether you accept Rādhā and Krishna, or not, please do accept their attraction for each other. Try to create that same yearning in your heart for God. Yearning is all you need in order to realize Him.

To work without attachment is to work without the expectation of reward or fear of any punishment in this world or the next. Work so done is a means to the end, and God is the end.

When the flower blooms the bees come uninvited.

“The nearer you approach to God, the less you reason and argue. When you attain Him, then all sounds—all reasoning and disputing—come to an end. Then you go into samadhi—sleep—, into communion with God in silence.”

When one has love for God, one doesn't feel any physical attraction to wife, children, relatives and friends. One retains only compassion for them

“The supreme purpose and goal for human life…is to cultivate love.”

Disease is the tax which the soul pays for the body, as the tenant pays house-rent for the use of the house.

When you are intoxicated with divine love, you  see god in all beings.

Message of Sri Ramakrishna
The message of Sri Ramakrishna to the modern world, which he gave through his life and through his recorded conversations, may be briefly stated as follows:

The goal of human life is the realization of the Ultimate Reality which alone can give man supreme fulfilment and everlasting peace. This is the essence of all religions.

The Ultimate Reality is one; but it is personal as well as impersonal, and is indicated by different names (such as God, Ishvar, etc) in different religions.

The Ultimate Reality can be realized through various paths taught in world religions. All religions are true in so far as they lead to the same ultimate Goal.

Purity of mind is an essential condition for the attainment of the Ultimate Reality; real purity is freedom from lust and greed. External observances are only of secondary mportance.

Through spiritual practices man can overcome his evil tendencies, and divine grace can redeem even the worst sinner. Therefore one should not brood over the past mistakes, but should develop a positive outlook on life by depending on God.

God realization is possible for all. The householders need not renounce the world; but they should pray sincerely, practise discrimination between the Eternal and the temporal and remain unattached. God listens to sincere prayer. Intense longing (vyakulata) is the secret of success in spiritual life.

God dwells in all people but the manifestation of this inner Divinity varies from person to person. In saintly people there is greater manifestation of God. Women are special manifestations of Divine Mother of the Universe, and so are to be treated with respect.

Egoism, caused by ignorance, is the root-cause of all suffering.

When the divine vision is attained, all appear equal; and there remains no distinction of good and bad, or of high and low.

"So long as the mind is unsteady and fickle, it availeth nothing, even though a man has got a good Guru and the company of Holy men."

God, Himself, has provided with different forms of worship.
Repeat God's name and sing His glories, and keep holy company; and now and then visit God's devotees and holy men
To fix the mind on God is very difficult, in the beginning, unless one practises meditation in solitude.

Bondage is of the mind; freedom too is of the mind. If you say 'I am a free soul. I am a son of God who can bind me' free you shall be

One man may read the Bhagavata by the light of a lamp, and another may commit a forgery by that very light; but the lamp is unaffected. The sun sheds its light on the wicked as well as on the virtuous.

The goal of life is not the earning of money, but the service of God.

God is in all men, but all men are not in God; that is why we suffer.

God realization is possible for all. The householders need not renounce the world; but they should pray sincerely, practise discrimination between the Eternal and the temporal and remain unattached. God listens to sincere prayer. Intense longing (vyakulata) is the secret of success in spiritual life.

The naked Sage, Totâpuri, used to say, 'If a brass pot be not rubbed daily, it will get rusty. So if a man does not contemplate the Deity daily, his heart will grow impure.' To him Srî Râmakrishna replied, 'Yes, but if the vessel be of gold, it does not require daily cleaning. The man who has reached God requires prayers or penances no more.

“You speak of doing good to the world. Is the world such a small thing? And who are you, pray, to do good to the world? First realise God, see Him by means of spiritual discipline. If He imparts power you can do good to others; otherwise not.”

Who is whose Guru? God alone is the guide and Guru of the universe.

To become great one must be humble. The tree laden with fruit always bends low. So if you wish to be great, be lowly and meek.

Do not seek illumination unless you seek it as a man whose hair is on fire seeks a pond.

Pure knowledge and pure love are one and the same thing. Pure Knowledge leads to the same goal which is
reached by pure Devotion.

That knowledge which purifies the mind and heart alone is true Knowledge, all else is only a negation of Knowledge.

As long as I live, so long do I learn.

Life is an expression of the spontaneous creativity (Lila) of God. Pleasure and pain, success and failure, etc are to be borne with patience, and one should resign oneself to God’s will under all circumstances.

God dwells in all beings. But you may be intimate only with good people; you must keep away from the evil-minded.
God undoubtedly dwells in the hearts of all—holy and unholy, righteous and unrighteous;
From time to time he should live in the company of holy men, and from time to time go into solitude to meditate on God.

Practice love, develop love, spread love and all the hatreds and jealousies will disappear.

"If you must be mad, be it not for the things of the world. Be mad with the love of God."

God is everywhere but He is most manifest in man. So serve man as God. That is as good as worshipping God.

Many are the names of God, and infinite the forms that lead us to know Him. In whatsoever name or form you desire to call Him, in that very form and name you will see Him.

Meditate upon the Knowledge and Bliss Eternal, and you will also have bliss. The Bliss indeed is eternal, only it is covered and obscured by ignorance. The less your attachment is towards the senses, the more will be your love towards God.

Why should you renounce everything? You are all right as you are, following the middle path.

Do all your duties, but keep your mind on God.
If you enter the world without first cultivating love for God, you will be entangled more and more.
One must go into solitude to attain...divine love.

Non-attachment born out of wisdom and fostered by the Grace of the Lord, that is the precious capital for spiritual advance.

First tie the nondual knowledge in the corner of your cloth; then do whatever you like.

A man can reach the roof of a house by stone stairs or a ladder or a rope-ladder or a rope or even by a bamboo pole. But he cannot reach the roof if he sets foot now on one and now on another. He should firmly follow one path. Likewise, in order to realize God a man must follow one path with all his strength. But you must regard other views as so many paths leading to God. You should not feel that your path is the only right path and that other paths are wrong. You mustn’t bear malice toward others

The goal of human life is the realization of the Ultimate Reality which alone can give man supreme fulfilment and everlasting peace. This is the essence of all religions.

Q. Where is God? How can we reach Him?
A. There are pearls in the sea; but you must dive again and again, until you find them. So God is in the world, but you will have to persevere, to see Him.

Pray to God that your attachment to such transitory things as wealth, name, and creature comforts may become less and less every day.

“If you feel proud, let it be in the thought that you are the servant of God, the son of God. Great men have the nature of a child. They are always a child before Him; so they are free from pride. All their strength is of God and not their own. It belongs to Him and comes from Him.”

Purity of mind is an essential condition for the attainment of the Ultimate Reality; real purity is freedom from lust and greed. External observances are only of secondary importance.

One must establish a relationship with God to attain Him – either the attitude of a hero, or of a female lover of the Lord, or of a handmaid, or of a child.

“Common men talk bagfuls of religion but do not practise even a grain of it. The wise man speaks a little, even though his whole life is religion expressed in action.”

When the goal of spiritual life is reached, there remains only compassion in the heart.

If you meditate on an ideal you will acquire its nature. If you think of god day & night you will acquire the nature of god. A salt doll went into the ocean to measure its depth. it became ONE with the ocean.

“In the scriptures you will find the way to realize God. But after getting all the information about the path, you must begin to work, Only then can you attain your goal.”

Many people think they cannot have knowledge or understanding of God without reading books. But hearing is better than reading, and seeing is better than hearing. Hearing about Benares is different from reading about it; but seeing Benares is different from either hearing or reading.

One cannot be spiritual as long as one has shame, hatred, or fear.

God can be felt and experienced only in the deepest silence. All noise must subside; then, His. Voice can be heard clearly.

If you say 'I am a sinner', eternally, you will remain asinner to all eternity. You ought rather to repeat, 'I am not bound, I am the son of God, the King of Kings'.

Unless one always speaks the truth, one cannot find God Who is the soul of truth.

This world is like a stage, where men perform many parts under various disguises. They do not like to take off the mask, unless they have played for some time. Let them play for a while, and then they will leave off the mask of their own accord.

You see many stars in the sky at night, but not when the sun rises. Can you therefore say that there are no stars in the heavens during the day? O man, because you cannot find God in the days of your ignorance, say not that there is no God.

If you are in right earnest to be good and pure, God will send you the sat-guru, the right Teacher . Earnestness is the one thing necessary.

Travel in all the four quarters of the earth, yet you will find nothing anywhere. Whatever there is, is only here.

“Only two kinds of people can attain self-knowledge: those who are not encumbered at all with learning, that is to say, whose minds are not over-crowded with thoughts borrowed from others; and those who, after studying all the scriptures and sciences, have come to realise that they know nothing.”

"Unalloyed love of God is the essential thing. All else is unreal."

“Knowledge leads to unity, but Ignorance to diversity.
So long as God seems to be outside and far away, there is ignorance. But when God is realised within, that is true knowledge.”

Longing is like the rosy dawn. After the dawn out comes the sun. Longing is followed by the vision of God.

When will you lie down happily between your wives, Purity and Defilement? When you see no difference between these two, then shall you see the Divine Mother Kali.

If you first fortify yourself with the true knowledge of the Universal Self, and then live in the midst of wealth and worldliness, surely they will in no way affect you.

“The young bamboo can be easily bent, but the full grown bamboo breaks when it is bent with force. It is easy to bend the young heart towards God, but the untrained heart of the old escapes the hold whenever it is so drawn”

MAHATMA GANDHI QUOTES

Keep your words positive
because your words become your behavior.

"Constant development is the law of life, and a man who always tries to maintain his dogmas in order to appear consistent drives himself into a false position"

In the attitude of silence the soul finds the path in a clearer light, and what is elusive and deceptive resolves itself into crystal clearness. Our life is a long and arduous quest after Truth, and the Soul requires inward restfulness to attain its full height.

There is nothing that wastes the body like worry, and one who has any faith in God should be ashamed to worry about anything whatsoever.

ANANDAMAYI MA QUOTES

"Enquire: 'Who am I?' and you will find the answer. Look at a tree: from one seed arises a huge tree; from it comes numerous seeds, each one of which in its turn grows into a tree. No two fruits are alike. Yet it is one life that throbs in every particle of the tree. So, it is the same Atman everywhere."

Once the Guru has accepted a disciple, He will never leave him until the goal has been attained. The question of leaving does not arise at all.

He is the Father, Mother, Guru, Friend, Creator, Preserver, Destroyer – everything.
He is the fountain of Peace and the treasure-house of real Happiness.
His essence is Being, Consciousness and Bliss.

Who are the truly wealthy? Those who are possessed of the Supreme Treasure —they alone are really rich and live in abundance. Poor and destitute must be called the man in whose heart the remembrance of God abides not. To depend solely on Him is man’s one and only duty.
Verily, abounding sorrow is the essential characteristic of life in this world. Fix your mind on God.

Verily, abounding sorrow is the essential characteristic of life in this world. Fix your mind on God.

Do not allow your mind to wander here and there; endeavor to make it one-pointed; have one single end in view.

A worldly desire, if unfulfilled, makes you miserable; if fulfilled, it is almost invariably followed by some other desire and the chain of desire disturbs your peace of mind. You will have peace only if you can rise above worldly desires.

What does Atma-darshana, the direct perception of the Self, imply? The seer, the seen and the act of seeing where these three are One, there the Brahman is realized.

There is One unchanging indivisible Reality which, though unmanifest, reveals Itself in infinite multiplicity and diversity.

Question: You say all moments are contained in the one supreme moment. I cannot understand this.
Sri Anandamayi Ma: In reality there is nothing but the one moment all along. Just as one single tree contains numberless trees, innumerable leaves, infinite movement, and untold static states, so does one moment contain an infinite number of moments, and within all these countless moments lies the one single moment. Look, there is motion as well as rest in that supreme moment. Why then should the revelation of the moment be spoken of? Because, misled by your perception of differences, you think of yourself and of each and every creature or object in the world as being apart from one another. This is why, for you, separateness exists

The intense desire for God-realization is itself the way to it.

Don't sit idle. Always be engaged in doing something useful. Either chant God's Name in silence or read a good book, or discuss good topic. But don't waste your valuable time in idle gossip.

“As you love your own body, so regard everyone as equal to your own body. When the Supreme Experience supervenes, everyone’s service is revealed as one’s own service. Call it a bird, an insect, an animal or a man, call it by any name you please, one serve’s one’s own Self in every one of them.”

The right sustenance for the mind cannot be had from anything that is of this world and hence perishable, but solely from that which is Eternal. The taste of the Eternal will still the mind. The Universe was created out of joy and this is why you find joy in the fleeting things of the world. Without joy life is an ordeal. You must try to attain to that great Joy which has brought forth the world.

God Almighty is nameless and formless; yet all names and forms are His.

As the confining prison walls of the ego are broken down, you will become more and more persistent and wholehearted in your pursuit of 'Reality.' Then all the manifold pictures you perceive will merge into one single picture and all your divergent moods and sentiments will be engulfed in the one great Ocean of Bliss.

God is without form, without quality as well as with form and quality.
Watch and see with what endless variety of beautiful forms
He plays the play of his maya with Himself alone.
The lila of the all pervading One goes on and on in this way in infinite diversity.
He is without beginning and without end.
He is the whole and also the part.
The whole and part together make up real Perfection.

Love and serve you consort and children as Divine manifestations. Perform all works as God’s service.

In whichever direction you may turn your gaze you will find One Eternal Indivisible Being manifested.

Meditation should be practiced every day of one's life. Look, what is there in this world? Absolutely nothing that is lasting; therefore direct your longing towards the Eternal.

All creation is that: There is beauty in the birds and in the animals. They too eat and drink like us, mate and multiply; but there is this difference: we can realize our true nature, the Atman. Having been born as human beings, we must not waste this opportunity. At least for a few seconds every day, we must enquire as to who we are. It is no use taking a return ticket over and over again. From birth to death, and death to birth is samsara. But really we have no birth and death. We must realize that.”

One should seek God, not with any motive but solely for His own sake. Neither should one feel concerned about one's spiritual progress, for that is also not unselfish. Seek God because it is your nature to do so; because you cannot remain without Him. Whether and when He will reveal Himself to you rests with Him. Your duty is to call out to Him constantly and persistently, and not to waste your energy on anything else.

'If the breath and the mind become one-pointed and steady, then the mind expands to infinity.'

You should kindle fire by any means, either with clarified butter or sandalwood or even straw. Once alight, the fire burns on; all worries, darkness and gloom gradually disappear. The fire will burn to ash all obstacles.

It is necessary to try and dedicate to the Supreme every single action of one’s daily life.

By saying I cannot one does not get far. One has to acquire capacity and achieve his end.

All sorrow is due to the fact that many are seen where there is only One.
Duality is pain. So long as man does not wake up to his identity with the One, the cycle of birth and death continues for him.

Are you master even of a single breath? To whatever small degree He makes you feel that you have freedom of action, if you understand that this freedom has to be used to aspire after the realization of Him, it will be for your good.

It is the pure, undefiled flower that finds a place at the Feet of the Lord and nowhere else. Take great care to spend your life in spotless purity, worthy to be dedicated in worship to the Lord. Speak about Him, meditate on His Glory, try to see Him in everyone, Him who is the Self, the breath of life, the heart of hearts. You feel lonely? In very truth you are not alone. Does the Supreme Friend ever forsake His friends?

If you live with the conviction that God is in the closest contact with you, you will gradually discover that there is nothing but God.

Grace is all the time showering like the rain; one should do a little bit of spiritual practice just in order that one is able to grasp it. The little bit of power you have – employ that! Read the sacred texts, take his name, do chanting – as much as you have power to do, go on doing. After that, He is there to do all that is to be done. The stomach does not get filled if the morsel of food is only put into the mouth.

The One Himself assuming the shape of the Guru of His own accord brings about His manifestation or becomes manifestated.!

"My consciousness has never associated itself with this temporary body. Before I came on this earth, Father, I was the same. As a little girl, I was the same. I grew into womanhood, but still I was the same. When the family in which I had been born made arrangements to have this body married, 'I was the same... And, Father, in front of you now, I am the same. Ever afterward, though the dance of creation change around me in the hall of eternity, I shall be the same."

The signification of the word guru is Jagadguru (World Teacher). A World Teacher is one who diverts men from the path leading to death and puts him on the path of Immortality. He who does this is the inner Guru.

When engaged in japa you are attentively to mark the motions of your breathing – inhaling and exhaling; if your mind tries to stray to and fro, forcibly attune it to your breathing; this will slowly set in the process of calming your mind.

One is born to experience various kinds of joys and sorrows according to one's desire. For the time being, God comes to you in the disguise of suffering. He is purifying you in this manner. The suffering is for your own best. A mother gives a slap to her beloved child for its own good, in order to keep it on the right path. When a fond mother gives her baby a bath, the child may scream desperately, yet the mother will not let the baby go until she has thoroughly washed and scrubbed him.

Whenever you have the chance, laugh as much as you can.
By this all the rigid knots in your body will be loosened. But to laugh superficially is not enough: your whole being must be united in laughter, both inwardly and outwardly. Do you know how this is expressed? You literally shake with merriment from head to foot, so  that it is impossible to tell which part of your body is most affected.
What you usually do is laugh with your mouth, while your emotions are held in check. But I want you to laugh with your whole countenance, with your whole heart and with all the breath of your life.

Whether you like it or not , you will have to make the Eternal your constant companion - just like a remedy which has got to be taken.
Verily, of Him is all that need be said,
The rest but vanity, woe.
Without loving God you will not get anywhere. Remember this at all times.

Man is no other than the Self; but he wrongly thinks of himself as a separate individual centre on his body and identified by a particular name.

The Guru actually emerges from within. When genuine search takes effect, his genuine manifestation is bound to occur; it cannot possibly be otherwise.

Question: What do you think of all these new people coming to see you almost daily?
Answer: Nobody is new. They are all familiar to me.
You and I are two persons and yet you and I are one; and the gap between the two of us this also is myself: there can be no question at all of duality. Attachment and hate arise out of the sense of duality.
Everybody's satisfaction is my satisfaction.
Everybody's happiness is my happiness.
Everybody's misery is my misery.
Become drinkers of nectar - all of you - drinkers of the wine of immortality.
Tread the path of immortality, where no death exists and no disease.

Endeavour to concentrate on the breath; this will provide a check on the mind preventing it from wandering away to outer objects.

Let your mind be like a beautiful flower that may be offered to the Lord in worship.

Even though you may want to push God the Mother aside, She will never leave you. Are you not her offspring? A mother does what is good and beneficial for her child. She gives to her scion exactly what is needed, not more and not less. Her forgiveness knows no limits, this is why she is called MOTHER. If with deep faith, devotion and love you can exclaim: 'Mother, come to me, I cannot pass my days without you', rest assured, the Universal Mother will spread out Her arms and clasp you to Her heart. Don't look up to Her only as a mysterious refuge in your hour of distress. Keep in mind, She is always very, very near as the Force that guides your life. She Herself is the supreme refuge of every sentient being. With this conviction proceed. She will take the brunt of your burdens from your shoulders and make them light.

If the Name that appeals most to you is constantly repeated, you will realize that all names are His Names, all forms are His forms.

There is nothing in this world; yet everyone is madly pursuing this nothing some more, some less.

Everything is in God's hands, and you are His tool to be used by Him as He pleases. Try to grasp the significance of 'all is His'. and you will immediately feel free from all burdens. What will be the result of your surrender to Him? None will seem alien, all will be your very own Self.

Duality is pain. So long as man does not wake up to his identity with the One, the cycle of birth and death continues for him.

I say to you that I am a little child and you are my parents. Accept me as such and give me a place in your hearts. By saying Mother, you keep me at a distance. Mothers have to be revered and respected. But a little girl needs to be loved and looked after, and is dear to the heart of everyone. So this is my only request to you: to make a place for me in your hearts!

People meditate in front of a picture. But what is a mere picture? Just paper! Yet if faith is maintained in meditation, the Lord Himself appears in that picture.

If you just place yourself under the protection of a Guru, then the path which is most suitable for you will by itself open up to you.

God is the one great Reality. To know and experience Him is the whole purpose of human existence. So do not hesitate to strive to achieve this great goal. Be patience in all the ups and downs of life. Everything will right itself. Do all that is necessary to be done, but do not be anxious. Do your best and leave the rest to God.

Do not search for the Self for this would be like your eye trying to see your retina. You are Self.

Just as a vigraha must not be regarded as a piece of stone, so the Guru must not the regarded as an ordinary human being.

Unless one has a point of view of one’s own, one will not be classed among the sages.

Widen your shriveled heart, make the interests of others your own and serve them as much as you can by sympathy, kindness, presents and so forth. So long as one enjoys the things of this world and has needs and wants, it is necessary to minister to the needs of one's fellow men. Otherwise one cannot be called a human being.
Whenever you have the opportunity, give to the poor, feed the hungry, nurse the sick - do service as a religious duty and you will come to know by direct perception that the person served, the one who serves and the act of service are separate only in appearance.

“Suffering is sent to remind you to turn your thoughts towards That which is real – to God who will give you solace.”

"The supreme calling of every human being is to aspire to self realization. All other obligations are secondary" and "only actions that kindle man's divine nature are worthy of the name of actions". She often said "to find yourself is to find God, and to find God is to find yourself."

Sustained effort ends in effortless being. What has been attained by constant practice is finally transcended. Then comes spontaneity.

The same inexpressible Truth is experienced in two ways: as Self-luminous Silence, or as the Eternal Play of the One.

Just as a vigraha must not be regarded as a piece of stone, so the Guru must not the regarded as an ordinary human being.

“Acquire a firm will and the utmost patience.”

God is within everyone, but man goes out in search of Him. This is what constitutes God’s Play and God’s Creation.”

Divine happiness, even the tiniest particle of a grain of it, never leaves one again; and when one attains to the essence of things and finds one's Self--this is supreme happiness. When it is found, nothing else remains to be found; the sense of want will not awaken anymore, and the heart's torment will be stilled forever. Do not be satisfied with fragmentary happiness, which is invariably interrupted by shocks and blows of fate; but become complete, and having attained to perfection, be YOURSELF.

SWAMI RAMA TIRTHA QUOTES

I am the lowest; I am the highest. There is no lowest, no highest with Me. Wherever human eyes fall, there I am. In Jesus I appeared. In Mohammad I revealed myself. The most famous people in the world I am, and the most disreputable, ignominious, the most fallen I am, I am the All, the All.

The Infinite is bliss. There is no bliss in anything finite. So long as you are finite, there is no bliss, no happiness for you. The Infinite is bliss, the Infinite only is bliss.

Within you is the real happiness, within you is the mighty ocean of Nectar Divine. Seek It within you, feel It, feel It, It is here, the Self. It is not the body, the mind, the intellect, the brain; it is not the desires or the desiring; it is not the objects of desire; above all these you are. All these are simply manifestations. You appear as the smiling flower, as the twinkling stars. What is there in the world which can make you desire anything?

The millionth descendant of the original seed has got the same infinite capability and potentiality which the original seed had.

The infinite potentiality, the Infinite Power latent in the finite form or figure, and the real meaning of the word 'seed', is the infinite within and not its outside or outward form, not that.

Blessed is he who is dead drunk in Divine madness.

Happy is he who is drowned in heavenly intoxication.

A man of liberation, a free man, is one who lives in Divinity, in Godhead, in such a way that his body was never born.

Be not astonished or afraid of the Truth and speak from the depth of your heart, "I am God."

The whole universe serves one as his body, when he feels the Universal Soul as his very Self.

It is through realisation of One's Infinity, conquering all sense of difference, feeling our oneness with all, realising the stars, landscapes, rivers, and all as my own, and through love owning all, that temptations lose their power over us.

When viewed from the standpoint of God-Self, the whole world becomes an effusion of beauty, an expression of joy, outpouring of bliss.

Heaven is within you; the paradise, the home of bliss within you, and yet you are searching for pleasures in the objects in the streets, searching for that thing outside, outside, in the objects of the senses. How strange!

The one aim and goal of life is not in wasting energy and accumulating riches, but in cultivating the inner powers, in educating yourself, to free yourself, to become God.

I fret not when fever would pay a visit. I receive it as a friend and spiritual truths flash which could never otherwise be disclosed.

Renounce your desires, rise above them and you find double peace, immediate rest and eventual fruition of desires. Remember that your desires will be realised only when you rise above them into the Supreme Reality. When you consciously or unconsciously lose yourself in the Divinity, then and then only will the time be ripe for the fulfilment of desires.

I am That
I have no scruple of change, nor fear of death,
Nor was I ever born,
Nor had I parents.
I am Existence Absolute, Knowledge Absolute, Bliss Absolute,
I am That, I am That,

I cause no misery, nor am I miserable;
I have no enemy, nor am I enemy.
I am Existence Absolute, Knowledge Absolute, Bliss Absolute,
I am That, I am That,

I am without form, without limit,
Beyond space, beyond time,
I am in everything, everything is in me.
I am the bliss of the universe,
Everywhere am I.
I am Existence Absolute, Knowledge Absolute, Bliss Absolute,
I am That, I am That,

I am without body or change of the body,
I am neither senses, nor object of the senses,
I am Existence Absolute, Knowledge Absolute, Bliss Absolute,
I am That, I am That,

I am neither sin, nor virtue,
Nor temple, nor worship
Nor pilgrimage, nor books.
I am Existence Absolute, Knowledge Absolute, Bliss Absolute,
I am That, I am That.

Practical renunciation means throwing off and casting overboard all anxiety, fear, worry, hurry, trouble of mind by continually keeping before your mental vision the Allness of your real Self.

Renunciation simply enhances your powers, multiplies your energies, strengthens your force, and makes a God of you. It takes away all your anxiety and fear. You become fearless and happy.

Renunciation is giving up egoistic life. Verily, verily, everlasting life lies in losing the congested life of personality.

The only way to escape from all sins, to stand above all temptations, is to realise the true Self.

Assert your Godhead, fling into utter oblivion the little self, as if it had never existed. When the little bubble bursts, it finds itself the whole ocean. You are the Whole, the Infinite, the All.

According to Vedanta, the material world as well as the astral worlds are unreal. You must rise above both, because rest, true peace, happiness can be had only when the Reality – the hard cash – behind the scenes is realised.

There is in fact only the one Self which we are, nothing besides It; and since there is nothing besides the Self, you cannot consistently say that you are apart. But it must follow that you are the entire Self. There is no division in Truth. You are the Truth now.

According to Vedanta, the self-evident Truth is that you are already God, nothing else but God; your Godhead is not to be effected, it is simply to be known and realised or felt.

What is jealousy, what is hatred? It is inverted attachment. When we hate somebody, it is because we are attached to something else.

If the body is sick, you say -O, I am undone, I am sick,‖ just because you identify yourself with the body pr the mind. Vedanta says give up this false identification and you will be alright. Anything wrong with the body or the mind should not disturb you. It is only this false sentimentalism due to this false self which causes all your suffering.

Rama suggests to you the most natural breath control [pranayama]. Breathe, breathe, breathe. In deep breathing the air will fill the lower part of the stomach and will also pass through the entire canal within. This way you will be at once released of depression, and your energies will be put to the best advantage.

Chant OM; and while doing it, begin that search within the lake of your mind. Search out the poisonous snake with its many tongues. These heads, tongues, and fangs of the poisonous snake are the innumerable wants, the worldly tendencies, and the selfish propensities. Crush them one by one, trample them under your feet, single them out, overcome them and destroy them while singing the syllable OM.

The child has no motives, yet it is one of the most active beings on the earth.

"Having nothing to do, be always doing" sums up Vedanta teaching.

When you rise to that height of Divine love; when you rise to such a degree that in your father, in your mother, in everybody, you see nothing but God; when you see, in the wife no wife, but the beloved One, God; then, indeed you do become God, then, indeed are you in the presence of God.

All the attractiveness you see in this world is nothing else but the true Divinity, the same which appears to you in the body of a beloved one, puts on a different dress in trees, in mountains and hills. Realise this, for this is how you can rise above all worldly passions and desires. This is the way to make spiritual use of worldly desires and to make use of them for their own sake.

A man who has never loved can never realize God; that is a fact.

The secret of perfect health and vigorous activity lies in keeping your mind always buoyant and cheerful, never worried, never hurried, never borne down by any fear, thought or anxiety.

Through ignorance you call yourself the body; the body you are not. You are the infinite Power; the Divinity; the constant, immutable, unchangeable One. That you are; know that and you find yourself inhabiting the whole world, inhabiting the whole universe.

The Law is that a man should be at rest, at peace, undisturbed, and the body should always be in motion; the mind to be subjected to the laws of statics, and the body subjected to the laws of dynamics; the body at work and the internal Self always at rest. That is the Law. Be free.

Love is no crying, begging, negative condition. It is an indescribable sense of equality, beaming sweetness and Divine recklessness. It is the seeing of All in all we see. It is seeing your own Self in where your eyes fall. It is to realise that All is beauty, and I am That. Tat Tvam Asi, or That Thou Art.

I am simply the witness of the phenomena, never entangled in them, always above them. All these phenomena are simply harmonic vibrations, the upward and downward motion of the wheel, the raising and bringing down of the step.

In order that you may reach the Truth, that you may realise Divinity, your dearest wants and desires will be pricked through and through, your wants and dearest attachments will have to be severed, all your favourite superstitions will have to be wiped out, to be torn aside – torn off from your body.

If you want to realise an object, if you want to get anything, do not hunt after the shadow. Touch your own head. Go within you. Realise this and you will see that the stars are your handiwork; you will see that all objects of love, all the bewitching and fascinating things are simply your own reflection or shadow.

Everything you meet in this world should be a stepping stone instead of a stumbling block. Convert your stumbling block into a stepping stone.

Where is the sword that can kill me? Where is the weapon that can wound me? Where is the calamity that can mar my cheerfulness? Where is the sorrow that can tamper with my happiness? Everlasting, the same yesterday, today, and forever, pure, and holy of holies, the Master of the universe, That I am, That I am.

Truth is Your Birth Right. Assert it and Be Master of Universe. Truth is "Tattva-Masi" - "That Thou Art"

MEHER BABA QUOTES

"The experiences are so innumerable and varied, that the journey appears to be interminable and the Destination is ever out of sight. But the wonder of it is, when at last you reach your Destination you find that you had never travelled at all! It was a journey from here to Here."

There is no higher or lower goal. There is only one goal, Self-realisation.

I tell you all, with my Divine Authority, that you and I are not "WE," but "ONE.

"It is good to seek your true nature..time defeats all other ambitions"

One should live in the world, perform all legitimate duties and yet feel mentally detached from everything. One should be in the world but not of it

The answer has been so simple that it has been difficult to grasp. The root of all our difficulties, individual and social, is self-interest.

If you make Me your real Father, all differences and contentions between you, and all personal problems in connection with your lives, will become dissolved in the Ocean of My Love.

When true love is awakened in the aspirant, it leads him to the realization of God and ... The happiness of God-realization is self-sustained, eternally fresh and into existence.

Twelve Ways of Realizing Me
1. LONGING ... If you experience that same longing and thirst for Union with Me as one who has been lying for days in the hot sun of the Sahara experiences the longing for water, then you will realize Me.

2. PEACE OF MIND ... If you have the peace of a frozen lake, then too, you will realize Me.

3. HUMILITY ... If you have the humility of the earth which can be molded into any shape, then you will know Me.

4. DESPERATION ... If you experience the desperation that causes a man to commit suicide and you feel that you cannot live without seeing Me, then you will see Me.

5. FAITH ... If you have the complete faith that Kalyan had for his Master, in believing it was night, although it was day, because his Master said so, then you will know Me.

6. FIDELITY ... If you have the fidelity that the breath has in giving you company, even without your constantly feeling it, till the end of your life, that both in happiness and in suffering gives you company and never turns against you, then you will know Me.

7. CONTROL THROUGH LOVE ... When your love for Me drives away your lust for the things of the senses, then you realize Me.

8. SELFLESS SERVICE ... If you have the quality of selfless service unaffected by results, similar to that of the sun which serves the world by shining on all creation, on the grass in the field, on the birds in the air, on the beasts in the forest, on all mankind with its sinner and its saint, its rich and its poor, unconscious of their attitude towards it, then you will win Me.

9. RENUNCIATION ... If you renounce for Me everything physical, mental and spiritual, then you have Me.

10. OBEDIENCE ... If your obedience is spontaneous, complete and natural as the light is to the eye or smell is to the nose, then you come to Me.

11. SURRENDER ... If your surrender to Me is as wholehearted as that of one, who, suffering from insomnia, surrenders to sudden sleep without fear of being lost, then you have Me.

12. LOVE ... If you have that love for Me that St. Francis had for Jesus, then not only will you realize Me, but you will please Me.

In the world there are countless sadhus, mahatmas, mahapurushas, saints, yogis and walis, though the number of genuine ones is very, very limited. The few genuine ones are, according to their spiritual status, in a category of their own, which is neither on a level with the ordinary human being nor on a level with the state of the Highest of the High.

'The book that I shall make people readis the book of the heart, which holds the keyto the mystery of life'

"One has to go beyond the mind to experience the spiritual bliss of desirelessness."

"Divine love makes us true to ourselves and to others. . . Divine love is the solution to our difficulties and problems. It frees us from every kind of binding. It makes us speak truly, think truly, and act truly. It makes us feel one with the whole universe. Divine love purifies our hearts and glorifies our being."

A mind that is fast is sick. A mind that is slow is sound. A mind that is still is divine.

All life is an effort to achieve freedom from self-created entanglement. It is a desperate struggle to undo what had been done in ignorance; to throw away the accumulated burden of the past; to seek rescue from the debris piled high from temporary achievements and failures.

When every moment is rich with eternal significance, there is neither the lingering clinging to the dead past, nor a longing expectation for the future, but an integral living in the eternal now. It is only through such living that the spiritual infinity of the Truth can be realised in life.

In eternity, all is here and now. You have simply to become that which you are. You are God, the infinite existence.

'The redeeming act of the Perfect Master is a flash of the eternal in the midst of what is otherwise nothing but rigidly determined causation. This the mystery of Divine Grace..

“True knowledge is that knowledge which makes man after Self-Realization or union with God assert that his real Self is in everything and everybody.”

"If a man is dissatisfied with his environment, it is usually because he does not know how to properly adjust himself to the environment. Instead of thinking, 'How can I get out of this?' and becoming discouraged and depressed, one should think, ' What is the lesson that I should learn from this experience?'"

To love God in the most practical way is to love our fellow beings.

"I have come to sow the seed of love in your hearts so that, in spite of all superficial diversity which your life in illusion must experience and endure, the feeling of oneness, through love, is brought about amongst all the nations, creeds, sects and castes of the world."

When, from the depths of his heart, man desires something more lasting than wealth and something more real than material power, the wave will recede. Then peace will come, joy will come, light will come.

"When nothing upsets you, you are at the beginning of the path. When you desire nothing, you are half-way on the path; when nothing becomes everything, you are perfected."

Life becomes meaningful and all activities are purposeful only on the basis of faith in the enduring reality. The greatest romance possible in life is to discover this Eternal Reality in the midst of infinite change. Once, one has experienced this, one sees oneself in everything that lives, one recognises all of life as his life, everybody's interests as his own. One is no longer bound by habits of the past, no longer swayed by the hopes of the future - One lives in and enjoys each present moment to the full. There is no greater romance in life than this adventure in realization.

There is no Sadhana greater than love; there is no law higher than love; and there is no goal beyond love. God and love are identical, and one who has Divine Love has received God.

Working for and serving others, and undergoing so much strain, is very good. It wipes out past karmas, and even the new sanskaras which are created are very faint. So it is of tremendous spiritual benefit to work, serve, and undergo hardships for others. Sitting idle and always eating ready-cooked, served meals, without lifting a finger to help, is very bad spiritually. It creates very deep sanskaras which are difficult to wipe away.

The satisfaction derived from the fleeting things of life is not lasting; and our wants remain unfulfilled. There is thus a general sense of dissatisfaction accompanied by all kinds of worries.

Every second in Eternity every one of us is the same One Indivisible God who has no second.

The Seven Realities
1.  The only Real Existence is that of the One and only God, who is the Self in every (finite) self.
2.  The only Real Love is the love for this Infinity (God), which arouses an intense longing to see, know and become one with its Truth (God).
3.  The only Real Sacrifice is that in which, in pursuance of this love, all things, body, mind, position, welfare and even life itself, are sacrificed.
4.  The only Real Renunciation is that which abandons, even in the midst of worldly duties, all selfish thoughts and desires.
5.  The only Real Knowledge is the knowledge that God is the inner dweller in good people and so-called bad, in saint and so-called sinner. This knowledge requires you to help all equally as circumstances demand, without expectation of reward, and when compelled to take part in a dispute, to act without the slightest trace of enmity or hatred; to try to make others happy, with brotherly or sisterly feeling for each one; to harm no one in thought, word or deed, not even those who harm you.
6.  The only Real Control is the discipline of the senses from indulgence in low desires, which alone ensures absolute purity of character.
7.  The only Real Surrender is that in which the poise is undisturbed by any adverse circumstances, and the individual, amidst every kind of hardship, is resigned with perfect calm to the will of God.

Things that are Real are given and received in Silence.
Come prepared to receive not so much of My Words, but of My Silence.
God has been everlastingly working in Silence, unobserved, unheard, except by those who experience His Infinite Silence.
Drown all sound in My Silence to hear My Word of Words.

“As a single object seems to multiply itself to him who is drunk to excess, so Unity appears as plurality to those who are intoxicated with the wine of egoism.”

Someone asked, "Why is there suffering?" Baba gave this succinct reply: "Suffering is essential for the elimination of the ego, just as it was necessary for you to scrub and scrub in order to wash the stain from my coat."

The easiest and shortest way to God-realization is through the contact of a Sadguru, which means keeping the company or sahavas of such a Master, obeying him and serving him. This remedy is like a special express train which carries you straight to your destination.

"True love is no game of the faint-hearted and the weak; it is born of strength and understanding."

"Trust God completely and He will solve all your difficulties. Faithfully leave everything to Him and He will see to everything.
Love God completely and He will reveal Himself to you."

WORK
Do whatever needs to be done, but do it as a spiritual being.
As one who knows he is divine by nature and unlimited with the whole of life in essence.
Do it as if you are doing it for Me or for God.
Do it with equal consideration for the interests of all concerned, for God is equally in each.
Do it with utmost concentration, yet with utter detachment for the results of action.
Leave the fruit of action to Me or to God.
Do it as if it were the most important thing in the universe, yet let it be destroyed, or ignored, or ridiculed without concern, or let it be praised without elation.
Leave the response to Me or to God.
Do it, in short, as if you were not doing it at all, but as if I or God were doing it through you.

Silence alone is."

The Self of everyone, the Atma of everyone, the transcendental field of reality of everyone, is the same in everyone. Whether the body calls itself an American, German, Indian or Chinese, it doesn't matter.

Enjoy your life and be happy. Being happy is of the utmost importance. Success in anything is through happiness. More support of nature comes from being happy. Under all circumstances be happy, even if you have to force it a bit to change some long standing habits. Just think of any negativity that comes to you as a raindrop falling into the ocean of your bliss. You may not always have an ocean of bliss, but think that way anyway and it will help it come. Doubting is not blissful and does not create happiness. Be happy, healthy, and let all that love flow through your heart.

Know what you want, decide when you want it, figure your plan of action, follow through on it, and never doubt.

"It is the responsibility of the older generation to advise the young, to tell the child what is right and wrong. Even if they do not want to listen to follow our direction, it is right to tell them."

"Whatever we put our attention on will grow stronger in our life."

"Everything is an expression of our own intelligence. Through simple, innocent, natural unbounded awareness - fullness of Self, all is accomplished -
Devotion
Positive influence on the entire universe
Nourishment of nature - thus gain the support of all the laws of nature
Effectiveness
Fulfilment of responsibility
Togetherness in dynamism
Revelation of underlying principles of life
Following the routine without rigidity
Elimination of individual's weaknesses.
Only we should not be influenced by the winds.

"The golden gate to peace in life is the experience of bliss, and it is easy for everyone to acquire this great glory and live it throughout life."

"If we think of defeat, that's what we'll get. If we are undecided then nothing will happen for us.
We must just pick something GREAT to do, and then DO it.
Never think of failure at all, for as we think now, that's what we'll get."

Bliss becomes blissful with practice. In our own bliss the desire, desirer and process of desiring are united - they are one. Desire is fulfilled at its source.

Gently resist the temptation to chase your dreams into the world;
pursue them in your heart until they disappear into the Self, and leave them there.

Sleep in the bliss of God. Feel love of God, Lie in the showers of his blessings. Let your heart melt in the love of God. Sleep in the love of God and in Love. Sleep in the warmth of Divine Grace, Without my words -- only in this feeling.

Meditation is the straight flight of the mind to the Kingdom of Heaven present in the heart of everyone.

“Fulfilment is structured in achievement,
Achievement is structured in action,
Action is structured in thinking,
Thinking is structured in knowledge, Knowledge is structured in consciousness”

If we are able to meet these two requirements - regularity in meditation and leading a good life in society, day-to-day a good life - then nothing would be unattainable by us.

“Like the air, God's Grace is available to us. It is permeating every fibre of Being and the Being of the entire universe. When we take our attention to that Being, finer than the finest, then we establish ourselves on the level of God's Grace. Immediately we just enjoy. Life is Bliss!”

Happiness radiates like the fragrance from a flower, and draws all good things toward you. Allow your love to nourish yourself as well as others. Do not strain after the needs of life. It is sufficient to be quietly alert and aware of them. In this way life proceeds more naturally and effortlessly. Life is here to Enjoy!

"It is the focus on the highest ideal day after day that saves life from being wrapped up in small whirlwinds."

The philosophy of life is this: Life is not a struggle, not a tension... Life is bliss. It is eternal wisdom, eternal existence.

“What makes one luckier is the good that he has done to others. It comes back to him. A man doesn’t become lucky by doing wrong. He becomes lucky because he has done good to others and that good comes back to him. And now he is lucky.”

“Experience shows that Being is the essential, basic nature of the mind; but, since It commonly remains in tune with the senses projecting outwards toward the manifested realms of creation, the mind misses or fails to appreciate its own essential nature, just as the eyes are unable to see themselves. ”

“It is the purity of man’s heart and mind, and his innocent and faithful approach to action with the purpose of all good to everyone, which really succeeds in yielding maximum results with minimum effort.”

If a man is able to submit himself to nature, then nature will react to his needs. Almighty nature is all powerful and all loving, for the laws of nature are for the creation and evolution of all beings and creatures throughout the cosmos. There is no greater kindness than the kindness of nature.

The appeal is, anything that can be done tomorrow should be done today, and anything that can be done today should be done now. One doesn't know what news comes.

Nine rules of life:
Don't analyze
Don't complain
Don't compare yourself to others
Don't expect things to be done for you
Don't expect perfection in the relative
Look to the knowledge aspect daily
Own the movement
Problems are all in your head
Hold yourself together

Like the hollow nothingness within the seed of a tree, which contains the potential of the entire tree, the experience of nothingness in the unmanifest field has within it the lively potential of everything in creation.

"Problems are not solved on the level of problems. Analysing a problem to find its solution is like trying to restore freshness to a leaf by treating the leaf itself, whereas the solution lies in watering the root... When the problem of suffering - physical or mental - has to be tackled, it must be tackled at the root cause in order to produce lasting results. The cause of all causes in life is Being and the different planes of individual life."

"Life finds its purpose and fulfillment in the expansion of happiness."

'When silence functions, it is beyond any speech. It is beyond any action. It is spontaneous. It is the spontaneous function of silence. Everything comes to our lap. Everything comes to our lap in the waves of thought, in the waves of our understanding, in the waves of realization.'

Responsibility can never be given. It can only be taken. See the job, do the job, stay out of the misery.

"It is right not to harm anyone and wrong to do harm. It is right to see good in others and wrong to see bad in anyone. It is right to love people and wrong to hate them. It is right to admire men for the good in them and wrong to rebuke them for their shortcomings and bad behavior. It is right to give advice to a man if he is doing wrong and wrong not to advise him to do good. It is right to do things which will be helpful to oneself and others and it is wrong to do things which will harm others. It is right to speak the truth but wrong to speak words which will harm others even if they are the truth. It is right to be good to others and wrong to be unpleasant to anyone."

"If we are all strong, stable, we can set our sail with any wind in the world that comes along. We make up our own direction. If we are not strong, we are like a leaf in the wind and the world's winds will take us where they wish, not where we wish. So we meditate, every day, regularly, and gain transcendental being in our everyday life and then we are strong. When we are all infused with Being, we need not think which course is right, we just take the one that is automatically. Being is the wind-resister and the sail-setter..."

"We must take situations as they are. We must only change our mental attitudes towards them

Why should a man suffer having God within himself? And what is the value of oneself if he keeps suffering?
Why waste time in helplessness ...? Why suffer when you can enjoy? . . . let the days of misery and peacelessness be over.

With the practice of deep meditation (Transcendental Meditation) the mind contacts the Bliss Consciousness of the Spirit and becomes more peaceful, happy, creative and powerful. This state of mind enriches all values of material life.

A good teacher will appreciate the good qualities of his students. If one good quality is allowed to emerge, a world of good qualities will emerge from that one.

LAHIRI MAHASAYA QUOTES

Through delusion you are perceiving yourself as a bundle of flesh and bones, which at best is a nest of troubles. Meditate unceasingly, that you may quickly behold yourself as the Infinite Essence, free from every form of misery. Cease being a prisoner of the body; using the secret key of Kriya, learn to escape into Spirit.

Divine union is possible through self-effort, and is not dependent on theological beliefs or on the arbitrary will of a Cosmic Dictator.

"If the breath is constantly shuffled then it attains a cessation or is stilled. This stillness is termed yoga. A living being is kinetic by disposition thus has no respite barring still state - kineticism is stilled through Pranayama. When the mind is stilled unnecessary desires are eliminated, the non-function of unnecessay action is termed as desire cessation or the desireless state."

Settlement is the advaita (non-duality) state removes the difference between God and the devotee.
The state in which the knower, known, knowledge becomes one that only is the state of science. This is the true devotion or true knowledge.

Seek divine wealth, not the paltry tinsel of earth. After acquiring inward treasure, you will find that outward supply is always forthcoming.

"I am ever with those who practice Kriya. I will guide you to the Cosmic Home through your enlarging perceptions."

"Attune yourself to the active inner Guidance; the Divine Voice has the answer to every dilemma of life. Though man’s ingenuity for getting himself into trouble appears to be endless, the Infinite Succor is no less resourceful."
