Story:Tomorrow I will try again, God willing

When the great Sufi mystic, Hasan, was dying, somebody asked "Hasan, who was your master?"

He said, "I had thousands of masters. If I just relate their names it will take months, years and it is too late. But three masters I will certainly tell you about.

One was A THIEF. Once I got lost in the desert, and when I reached a village it was very late, everything was closed. But at last I found one man who was trying to make a hole in the wall of a house. I asked him where I could stay and he said 'At this time of night it will be difficult, but you can stay with me -- if you can stay with a thief.'
And the man was so beautiful. I stayed for one month! And each night he would say to me, 'Now I am going to my work. You rest, you pray.' When he came back I would ask 'Could you get anything?' He would say, 'Not tonight. BUT TOMORROW I WILL TRY AGAIN, GOD WILLING.' He was never in a state of hopelessness, he was always happy.

When I was meditating and meditating for years on end and nothing was happening, many times the moment came when I was so desperate, so hopeless, that I thought to stop all this nonsense. And suddenly I would remember the thief who would say every night, 'God willing, tomorrow it is going to happen.'

And my second master was A DOG. I was going to the river, thirsty and a dog came. He was also thirsty. He looked into the river, he saw another dog there -- his own image -- and became afraid. He would bark and run away, but his thirst was so much that he would come back. Finally, despite his fear, he just jumped into the water, and the image disappeared. And I knew that a message had come to me from God: ONE HAS TO JUMP IN SPITE OF ALL FEARS.

And the third master was A SMALL CHILD. I entered a town and a child was carrying a lit candle. He was going to the mosque to put the candle there.
Just joking, I asked the boy, 'Have you lit the candle yourself?' He said, 'Yes sir.' And I asked, 'There was a moment when the candle was unlit, then there was a moment when the candle was lit. Can you show me the source from which the light came?'
And the boy laughed, blew out the candle, and said, 'Now you have seen the light going. Where has it gone? You will tell me!'

MY EGO WAS SHATTERED, my whole knowledge was shattered. And that moment I felt my own stupidity. Since then I dropped all my knowledgeability.
It is true that I had no master. That does not mean that I was not a disciple -- I ACCEPTED THE WHOLE EXISTENCE AS MY MASTER. My disciplehood was a greater involvement than yours is. I trusted the clouds, the trees. I trusted existence as such. I had no master because I had millions of masters. I learned from every possible source. To be a disciple is a must on the path.

What does it mean to be a disciple? It means to be able to learn. to be available to learn to be vulnerable to existence. With a master you start learning to learn.

The master is a swimming pool where you can learn how to swim. Once you have learned, all the oceans are yours.

SRI YUKTESWAR GIRI QUOTES

To keep company with the guru is not only to be in physical presence (as this is sometimes impossible), but mainly means to keep him in our hearts and to be one with him in principle and to attune ourselves with him.

Forget you were born a Hindu, and don't be an American. Take the best of them both. Be your true self, a child of God. Seek and incorporate into your being the best qualities of all your brothers, scattered over the earth in various races.

Do not confuse understanding with a larger vocabulary. Sacred writings are beneficial in stimulating desire for inward realization, if one stanza at a time is slowly assimilated. Otherwise, continual intellectual study may result in vanity, false satisfaction, and undigested knowledge.

Forget the past. The vanished lives of all men are dark with many shames. Human conduct is ever unreliable until anchored in the Divine. Everything in future will improve if you are making a spiritual effort now.

“..So you have inexplicably failed to isolate The Supreme Power in your test tubes!” Masters gaze was stern. “I recommend a new experiment: examine your thoughts unremittingly for twenty-four hours. Then wonder no longer at God’s absence.”

The Lord responds to all and works for all. Just as He sent rain at my plea, so He fulfills any sincere desire of the devotee. Seldom do men realize how often God heeds their prayers. He is not partial to a few, but listens to everyone who approaches Him trustingly. His children should ever have implicit faith in the loving-kindness of their Omnipresent Father.

The deeper the realization of a man, the more he influences the whole universe by his subtle spiritual vibrations, and the less he himself is affected by the phenomenal flux.

I heard my mother remark occasionally: 'A man who accepts a job under anyone is a slave.' That impression became so indelibly fixed that even after my marriage I refused all positions. I met expenses by investing my family endowment in land. Moral: Good and positive suggestions should instruct the sensitive ears of children. Their early ideas long remain sharply etched.

The body is a treacherous friend. Give it its due; no more. Pain and pleasure are transitory; endure all dualities with calmness, trying at the same time to remove yourself beyond their power. Imagination is the door through which disease as well as healing enters. Disbelieve in the reality of sickness even when you are ill; an unrecognized visitor will flee!

Ordinary love is selfish, darkly rooted in desires and satisfactions. Divine love is without condition, without boundary, without change. The flux of the human heart is gone forever at the transfixing touch of pure love.

The darkness of maya is silently approaching. Let us hie homeward within.

“Those who remove our troubles, dispel our doubts, and bestow peace are true teachers. They perform a Godlike work. Their opposites (those who increase our doubts and difficulties) are harmful to us and should be avoided like poison.”

Forget the outward symbols of renunciation, which may injure you by inducing a false pride. Nothing matters except your steady, daily spiritual advancement; for that, use Kriya Yoga.

There is a deeper astrology, not dependent on the testimony of calendars and clocks. Each man is a part of the Creator, or Cosmic Man; he has a heavenly body as well as one of earth. The human eye sees the physical form, but the inward eye penetrates more profoundly, even to the universal pattern of which each man is an integral and individual part.

The world illusion, maya, is individually called avidya, literally, not-knowledge, ignorance, delusion. Maya or avidya can never be destroyed through intellectual conviction or analysis, but solely through attaining the interior state of nirbikalpa Samadhi.

A worthy leader has the desire to serve, not to dominate.

If man's sleep be deep and dreamless, for several hours he is able to transfer his consciousness, or sense of I-ness, to the causal body; such sleep is revivifying.

All creation is governed by law. The principles that operate in the outer universe, discoverable by scientists are called natural laws. But there are subtle laws that rule the hidden spiritual planes and the inner realm of consciousness; these principles are knowable through the science of yoga. It is not the physicist but the Self realized master who comprehends the true nature of matter. By such knowledge Christ was able to restore the servant's ear after it had been severed by one of the disciples

"Just as the purpose of eating is to satisfy hunger, not greed, so the sex instinct is designed for the propagation of the species according to natural law, never for the kindling of insatiable longings," he said. "Destroy wrong desires now; otherwise they will follow you after the astral body is torn from its physical casing. Even when the flesh is weak, the mind should be constantly resistant. If temptation assails you with cruel force, overcome it by impersonal analysis and indomitable will. Every natural passion can be mastered.
Roam in the world as a lion of self-control; see that the frogs of weakness don’t kick you around.
A true devotee is finally freed from all instinctive compulsions. He transforms his need for human affection into aspiration for God alone - a love solitary because omnipresent.

My guru Swami Sri Yukteswar wisely counselled: "Throw the dog a bone" - give the body its due, neither pampering nor abusing it, and then forget the body.

So long as you breathe the free air of earth, you are under obligation to render grateful service. He alone who has fully mastered the breathless state is freed from cosmic imperatives.

"Be comfortable within your purse. Extravagance will buy you discomfort."

“The root of pain is egoistic actions, which (being based on delusions) lead to misery.”
Remember that finding God will mean the funeral of all sorrows.

“The eight bondages or snares are hatred, shame, fear, grief, condemnation, race prejudice, pride of family and smugness. Removal of the eight bondages leads to magnanimity of the Heart. “

Look fear in the face and it will cease to trouble you.

The rishis wrote in one sentence profundities that commentating scholars busy themselves over for generations. Endless literary controversy is for sluggard minds. What more quickly liberating thought than ‘God is’ - nay, ‘God’?

Good manners without sincerity are like a beautiful dead lady.
Straightforwardness without civility is like a surgeon's knife, effective but unpleasant. Candor with courtesy is helpful and admirable.

Wrath springs from thwarted desires. I do not expect anything from others, so their actions cannot be in opposition to wishes of mind.

A man of realization does not perform any miracles until he receives an inward sanction. God does not wish the secrets of His creation revealed promiscuously*. Also every individual in the world has an inalienable right to his free will. A saint will not encroach on that independence.

When this love, the heavenly gift of Nature, appears in the heart, it removes all causes of excitation from the system and cools it down to a perfectly normal state; and, invigorating the vital powers, expels all foreign matters- the germs of diseases-by natural ways (perspiration and so forth). It thereby makes man perfectly healthy in body and mind, And enables him to understand properly the guidance of Nature.

Parambrahma (Spirit or God) is everlasting, complete without beginning or end. It is one, indivisible Being.

The Holy Sound Pranava Sabda appears spontaneously through the culture of Sraddha the energetic tendency of heart’s natural love, Veerya the moral courage, Smiriti the true conception and Samadhi the true concentration.

Saintliness is not dumbness! Divine perceptions are not incapacitating! The active expression of virtue gives rise to the keenest intelligence.

“In shallow men the fish of little thoughts cause much commotion. In oceanic minds the whales of inspiration make hardly a ruffle.

“Grieve not for me....You and I shall smile together, so long as our two forms appear different in the maya-dream of God. Finally we shall merge as one in the Cosmic Beloved; our smiles shall be His smile, our unified song of joy vibrating throughout eternity to be broadcast to God-tuned souls!”

Quotations there have been, in superabundance. But what original commentary can you supply, from the uniqueness of your particular life? What holy text have you absorbed and made your own? In what ways have these timeless truths renovated your nature? Are you content to be a hollow victrola, mechanically repeating the words of other men?

SAI BABA QUOTES

Why fear when I am here?
I am formless and everywhere
I am in everything and beyond. I fill all space.
All that you see taken together is Myself.
All that is seen is my form: ant, fly, prince, and pauper.
I do not shake or move.

Life is a song - sing it.
Life is a game - play it.
Life is a challenge - meet it.
Life is a dream - realize it.
Life is a sacrifice - offer it.
Life is love - enjoy it.

Do not be obsessed by egotism, imagining that you are the cause of action: everything is due to God.

There is a wall of separation between oneself and others and between you and me. Destroy this wall!

You must be a lotus, unfolding its petals when the sun rises in the sky, unaffected by the slush where it is born or even the water which sustains it!

What matters is to live in the present, live now, for every moment is now. It is your thoughts and acts of the moment that create your future. The outline of your future path already exists, for you created its pattern by your past.

The four sadhanas and the six Sastras are not necessary. Just has complete trust in your guru: it is enough..

Love one another and help others to rise to the higher levels, simply by pouring out love. Love is infectious and the greatest healing energy.

If formless meditation is difficult, then think of My form just as you see it here. With such meditation, the difference between subject and object is lost and the mind dissolves in unity.
Meditate on what you read and think of God.
Meditate on Me either with form or without form, that is pure bliss.

Do not be idle: work, utter God’s name and read the scriptures.

Be contented and cheerful with what comes.

Whatever creature comes to you, human or otherwise, treat it with consideration.

Man learns through experience, and the spiritual path is full of different kinds of experiences. He will encounter many difficulties and obstacles, and they are the very experiences he needs to encourage and complete the cleansing process.

What do we lose by another’s good fortune? Let us celebrate with them, or strive to emulate them.

Let love flow so that it cleanses the world. Then man can live in peace, instead of the state of turmoil he has created through his past ways of life, with all those material interests and earthly ambitions.

What is new in the world? Nothing. What is old in the world? Nothing. Everything has always been and will always be.

You say: It’s impossible

Sai says: You can do all things
You say: I’m not able
Sai says: I am able
You say: It’s not worth it
Sai says: It will be worth it
You say: I can’t forgive myself
Sai says: I FORGIVE YOU
You say: I can’t manage
Sai says: I will supply all your needs
You say: I’m afraid
Sai says: I have not given you a spirit of fear
You say: I’m always worried and frustrated
Sai says: Cast all your cares on ME
You say: I don’t have enough faith
Sai says: I’ve given everyone a measure of faith
You say: I’m not smart enough
Sai says: I give you wisdom
You say: I feel all alone
Sai says: I will never leave you or forsake you..

“Before you speak ask yourself: Is it kind, is it necessary, it is true, does it improve upon the silence?”

Wealth is really a means to work out dharma. If one uses it merely for personal enjoyment, it is vainly spent.

A house must be built on solid foundations if it is to last. The same principle applies to man, otherwise he too will sink back into the soft ground and becomes swallowed up by the world of illusion.

If we see all actions as God’s doing, we will be unattached and free from karmic bondage.

Guru and his disciple should love and serve each other as one. There is no distinction nor any difference between them. Both are one and one cannot live without the other. Those who see any difference between them are yet unripe and not perfect

Q: Somebody asked Baba that why do we need Guru or God's Grace?
Baba answered : " The path of this world is dangerous & difficult. If there is a guide with you, he will take you straight to your destination, avoiding wolves, tigers & ditches on the way. If there will be no Guide, there is a danger of your being lost in the jungles or falling into the ditches. Same is the importance of Guru or God's grace in your life. "

Meditation(Yoga), Sacrifice, Penance and Knowledge are the means to attain God. If you do not succeed in this by any means, in vain is your human birth.

"Human body is considered to be filthy, but if we reject or neglect it we loose the chance of God-vision and if we over-indulge in it and run after the sense-enjoyments because it is precious we go to hell. Therefore the proper course should be that the Human body should neither be neglected nor fondled, but should be properly cared for, just as a traveler on a Horse-back takes care of his horse on the way, till he reaches his destination and returns home. Thus the Human body should be ever used to attain God vision or Self-realization, which is the supreme end of life. "

Before the senses, mind and Intellect enjoy their objects, first God should be remembered. Senses can never remain without their objects, if those objects are first offered to God, the attachment for them will naturally vanish. In the same way all subtle thoughts including desire, anger, avarice should be first offered to the Guru. If this practice is followed the Lord will help you in eradicating all the vices.

"Anger is a deadly enemy. It burns our all Shubh karmas (Good deeds), Beware of it.."

"When we begin to practice discrimination we come to know that this world is transient & Unreal and our passion for worldly things become less and ultimately we get a feeling of Non-attachment for them. When we know that God which is no more than our guru, is the sole reality and god himself transcends and besets this seeming universe, then we begin to worship.

Get dispassion for the things and enjoyments of the world and have your mind turned to the Lord. It is essential for Self-progress.

Unless Egoism is dropped, Greed is vanished and the Mind becomes pure by being desire-less, the sensation of true form of God is not possible.

From Begining to end, one should live one-pointedly in whatever condition decided by fate and be contented. Never Worry."

There is no difference between Guru and God. He who sees any difference in them, sees God nowhere.

If anyone does anything evil unto you, do not retaliate. If you can do anything, Do some good unto others.

Human soul after being deluded by Maya forgets his true nature of Pure-consciousness-knowledge bliss and thinks that he is the doer and thus entangles himself in endless miseries. The only way to deliverance is the loving devotion towards the Guru's feet.

Knowledge or Self-realization is not possible unless there is the prior act of removing your personal desires, impulses, sins which is so hidden and so difficult to get rid of.

No one whether he be your Father, Mother, Spouse, Brother or any other relation comes to our aid in attaining the goal of life (self-realization). We have to find out the path of Self-realization ourselves with the guidance of our spiritual guru.

Problems and difficulties surround you, just to move you and confirm your faith. We are tested as it were. If we only hold on steadily to Baba with full faith and continue our endeavors, our efforts will be ultimately crowned with success for sure.

People should live happily in this world but they should be ever cautious and achieve the aim of their life, viz self-realization. We get human body as a result of merits in the past births and it is worthwhile that with its aid we should attain devotion and liberation in this life. So we should never be lazy but always be on the alert to gain the supreme goal of our life.

You must bear the fruit -good or bad of your actions. If it is incomplete, suicide won't help you. You have to take another birth and suffer again. So instead of killing yourself, why not suffer for sometime and finish up the fruit of your past deeds and be done with it once and for all.

Surrendering body, mind, intellect and ego  to the Guru is the Supreme Bhakti. Dedication to Guru or God is real surrender. Then God or Guru takes his seat in your heart and drives the chair of your body and soul to the city of Moksha and Ananda.

Our true Guru is God alone.  He transcends all Good qualities. He is beyond all forms. He is the only one who can drive out the darkness of Ignorance and light the lamp of Supreme Wisdom.

My true disciples should have the virtues of:- Forgiveness, Calmness, Disinterestedness, Charity, Benevolence, Control of mind and Egolessness.

Unless a man has turned away from wickedness and stopped from doing wrong and has entirely composed himself and unless his mind is at rest, he cannot gain self-realization even by means of knowledge.

Wealth is really a means to work out dharma. If one uses it merely for personal enjoyment, it is vainly spent.

LORD MAHAVIRA QUOTES

O Self! Practise Truth, and nothing but Truth.
Enlightened by the light of Truth, the wise transcends death.
Truth alone is the essence in the world.
A truthful man is treated as reliable as the mother, as venerable as the guru (preceptor) and as beloved as the one who commands knowledge.
Truthfulness indeed is tapa (penance). In truthfulness do reside self-restraint and all other virtues. Just as the fish can live only in the sea, so can all other virtues reside in truthfulness alone.

Fight with yourself, why fight with external foes? He, who conquers himself through himself, will obtain happiness.
There is no enemy out of your soul. The real enemies live inside yourself, they are anger, proud, curvedness, greed, attachmentes and hate.
It is better to win over self than to win over a million enemies.

Dont be proud if you gain. Nor be sorry if you lose.

Every soul is independent. None depends on another.
Every soul is in itself absolutely omniscient and blissful. The bliss does not come from outside.

Have compassion towards all living beings. Hatred leads destruction.
Every living being has a strong desire to live and we must respect this in our thoughts and actions.
Silence and Self-control is non-violence.
Respect for all living beings is non violence.
Non violence is the highest religion.

God is neither the creator nor the destroyer of the universe. He is merely a silent observer and omniscient.

All human beings are miserable because of their own ignorance, and they themselves can be happy by acquiring proper knowledge.

A living body is not merely an integration of limbs and flesh but it is the abode of the soul which potentially has perfect perception (Anant-darshana), perfect knowledge (Anant-jnana), perfect power (Anant-virya), and perfect bliss (Anant-sukha).

Study of scriptures (Svadhyaya) is of five kinds: 1. Reading of scriptural texts, 2. Questioning, 3. Repitition, 4. pondering over and 5. narration of religious discourses opening with auspicious praise(of Jina).
He who studies scriptures with devotion and without any desire for personal praise and honour but for purging of his karmic pollution will have the benefit of scriptural knowledge which conduces to happiness.

Live and allow others to live; hurt no one; life is dear to all living beings.
Just as you do not like misery, in the same way others also do not like it. Knowing this, you should do unto them what you want them to do unto you.

The valiant does not tolerate indulgence, nor does he tolerate abhorrence. As he is pleased with his own self, he is not attached to anything.

The unenlightened takes millions of lives to extirpate the effects of karma whereas a man possessing spiritual knowledge and discipline obliterates them in a single moment.
As gold does not cease to be gold even if it is heated in the fire; an enlightened man does not cease to be enlightened on being tortured by the effect of karma.

Pride, anger, carelessness, illness and idleness are the five obstacles in the path of acquiring knowledge.
Anger spoils good relations, pride destroys humility, deceit destroys amity and greed destroys everything.
Conquer anger by forgiveness, pride by humility, deceit by straight-forwardness and greed by contentment.

If one undertakes retrospection of the day's events, one must do it regularly at the appointed hour, not fitfully, not doing it today, neglecting to do it tomorrow and the day after and then taking it up again on the fourth day. Such irregular practice is not conducive to the confirmation of the habit of retrospection.

Anger begets more anger, and forgiveness and love lead to more forgiveness and love.

There is nothing as fearful as death, and there is no suffering as great as birth. Be free from the fear of both birth and death, by doing away with attachment to the body.

Only that man can take a right decision, whose soul is not tormented by the afflictions of attachment and aversion.

One should practise Dharma before old age creeps up, the senses become feeble and one falls a prey to all kinds of diseases.(For, it will not be possible to practise Dharma later with a feeble and incompetent body.)

Do not be in dread of the dreadful, the illness, the dis ease, the old age, and even the death or any other object of fear.

Only the one who has transcended fear can experience equanimity.
(One should reflect thus:) Let me treat all living beings with equanimity and none with enmity. Let me attain samadhi (tranquillity) by becoming free from expectations.
Where there is neither pain nor pleasure, neither suffering nor obstacle, neither birth nor death, there is emancipation(Nirvana).

Just as everybody keeps away from a burning fire, so do the evils remain away from an enlightened person

A man is seated on top of a tree in the midst of a burning forest. He sees all living beings perish. But he doesn't realize that the same fate is soon to overtake him also. That man is fool.

The five senses of the awakened always remain inactive. The five senses of the slumber always remain active. By means of the active five one acquires bondage while by means of the inactive five the bondage is severed.

There is no separate existence of God. Everybody can attain God-hood by making supreme efforts in the right direction.

If you want to cultivate a habit, do it without any reservation, till it is firmly established. Until it is so confirmed, until it becomes a part of your character, let there be no exception, no relaxation of effort.

The soul comes alone and goes alone, no one companies it and no one becomes its mate.

There are only two mistakes one can make along the road to truth; not going all the way, and not starting

Birth is attended by death, youth by decay and fortune by misfortune. Thus everything in this world is momentary.

Can you hold a red-hot iron rod in your hand merely because some one wants you to do so? Then, will it be right on your part to ask others to do the same thing just to satisfy your desires? If you cannot tolerate infliction of pain on your body or mind by others' words and actions, what right have you to do the same to others through your words and deeds?

An indolent person can never be happy and a lethargic person can never acquire knowledge.A person with attachments cannot acquire renunciation and a person who is violent cannot be compassionate.

Those who are ignorant of the supreme purpose of life will never be able to attain nirvana (liberation) in spite of their observance of the vratas (vows) and niymas (rules) of religious conduct and practice of sila (celibacy) and tapas (penance).

Let me renounce the bondage of attachment and hatred, pride and meekness, curiosity, fear, sorrow, indulgence and abhorrence (in order to accomplish equanimity).
Let me give up attachment through unattachment. My soul will be my only support (in this practice of unattachment). (Hence) let me give up everything else.

The greatest mistake of a soul is non-recognition of its real self and can only be corrected by recognizing itself.

The knowledge acquired at a time when one is comfortable vanishes away when one begins to experience discomfort.Hence a Yogin ought to contemplate on the self in the midst of hardships keeping in mind his capacity for tolerance.

One who knows the spiritual (self) knows the external (world) too. He who knows the external world, knows the self also.

Just as fire is not quenched by the fuel and the ocean by thousands of rivers, similarly no living being is satisfied even with all the wealth of all the three worlds.

One who, even after knowing the whole universe, can remain unaffected and unattached is God.

RAMANA MAHARSHI QUOTES

You have to ask yourself the question ‘Who am I?’ This investigation will lead in the end to the discovery of something within you, which is behind the mind. Solve that great problem and you will solve all other problems.

The Question 'Who am I?' is not really meant to get the answer,
The Question 'Who am I?' is really meant to dissolve the questioner.

Mukti has to be gained in full awareness, because the Reality itself is pure awareness.

God, Guru and the Self are the same. After your bhakti to God has matured you, God comes in the shape of a Guru and from outside pushes your mind inside, while being inside as Self He draws you there from within.

'No one succeeds without effort... Those who succeed owe their success to perseverance.'

Everything is perfect in God's creation. Ignorance and suffering exist only in the minds of people.

That which is Bliss is also the Self. Bliss and the Self are not distinct and separate but are one and the same. And That alone is real.

Do not meditate - be!
Do not think that you are - be!
Don't think about being - you are!

Just as the sun gives light to the moon, the Heart lights the mind.

Happiness is inherent in man and is not due to external causes.

The Guru is both `external' and `internal'. From the `exterior' he [she] gives a push to the mind to turn inward; from the `interior' He pulls the mind towards the Self and helps in the quieting of the mind. That is guru's grace.

We imagine that we will realise that Self some time, whereas we are never anything but the Self.

What is ever present is pure existence. It has no past or future.

Your own Self-realization is the greatest service you can render the world.

Grace is ever present. All that is necessary is that you surrender to It.

Silence is most powerful. Speech is always less powerful than silence.

The Self cannot be found in books. You have to find it for yourself in yourself.

You ignore the doubter but try to solve the doubts...hold on to the doubter and the doubts will disappear.

The mind is born of the ego. The ego rises from the Self. Search the source of the ego and the Self is revealed. That alone remains.

What is fear? It is only a thought. If there is anything besides the Self there is reason to fear.

The life of action need not be renounced. If you meditate for an hour or two every day you can then carry on with your duties. If you meditate in the right manner then the current of mind induced will continue to flow even in the midst of your work.

Peace is your natural state. It is the mind that obstructs the natural state.

Pleasure and pain are only aspects of the mind. Our essential nature is happiness,

If you go on working with the light available, you will meet your Master, as he himself will be seeking you.

Silence is unceasing eloquence. It is the best language. There is a state when words cease and silence prevails.

Let what comes come. Let what goes go. Find out what remains.

If one realizes at heart what one's true nature is, one will find that it's infinite wisdom, truth and bliss, without beginning and end.

If the mind is happy, not only the body but the whole world will be happy.

You don't grow by acquiring something, Nor wither away by losing it. You remain what you always are.

The degree of freedom from unwanted thoughts and the degree of concentration on a single thought are the measures to gauge spiritual progress.

The fruit of action passes. But the act leaves behind the seed of further acts leading to an endless ocean of action; not at all to moksha.

Why should you worry about the future? You don't even know the present properly. Take care of the present and the future will take care of itself.

There is neither creation nor destruction, neither destiny nor free will, neitherpath nor achievement. This is the final truth.

To see God is to be God. There is no all apart from God for Him to pervade. He alone is.

All we need do is keep quiet.

The knowledge of oneself will be revealed only to the consciousness which is silent, clear and free from activity of the agitated and suffering mind.

All these universes, humans, objects, thoughts and events are merely pictures moving on the screen of Pure Consciousness, which alone is real. Shapes and phenomena pass away, but Consciousness remains ever.

The Lord who has fed you today will ever do so well. Therefore, live carefree, placing all your burden at His feet and having no thought of tomorrow or the future.

'Happiness is your nature. It is not wrong to desire it. What is wrong is seeking it outside when it is inside.'

How to see God? To see Him is to be consumed by Him.

The conception that there is a goal and a path to it, is wrong. We are the goal or peace always. To get rid of the notion that we are not peace is all that is required.

You need not aspire for or get any new state. Get rid of your present thoughts, that is all.

By remaining in contact with realised sages the man gradually loses the ignorance until its removal is complete. The eternal Self is thus revealed.

To realise the Self is to be still. What can be easier than that?

The aim is to reach the root of the 'I'sense, through constant suppression of the mental processes.

You are already That which you seek.

The body is itself a mere projection of the mind, and the mind is but a poor reflection of the radiant Heart.

To identify oneself with the body and yet seek happiness is like attempting to crossing a river on the back of an alligator. In truth, you are Spirit.

If concentration is made with the brain, sensations of heat and even headache ensue. Concentration has to be made in the heart, which is cool and refreshing. Relax and your meditation will be easy. Keep your mind steady by gently warding off all intruding thoughts, but without strain - soon you will succeed.

Whatever burdens are thrown on God, He bears them. Since the supreme power of God makes all things move, why should we, without submitting ourselves to it, constantly worry ourselves with thoughts as to what should be done and how, and what should not be done and how not? We know that the train carries all loads, so after getting on it why should we carry our small luggage on our head to our discomfort, instead of putting it down in the train and feeling at ease?

The final obstacle to meditation is ecstasy; when you feel great bliss and happiness, the tendency is to stay in that ecstasy. Do not yield to this (laya) but pass onto the sixth stage, which is great calm. The calm is higher than ecstasy and it merges into samadhi.

Take care of yourself. Let the world take care of itself. See your Self. If you are the body there is the gross world also. If you are spirit all is spirit alone.

When the mind is left without anything to cling to, it becomes still.

Have faith in God and in yourself; that will cure all. Hope for the best, expect the best, toil for the best and everything will come right for you in the end.

Keep an open mind, dive within and find out the Self. The truth will itself dawn upon you.

Your duty is to be and not to be this or that. 'I am that I am' sums up the whole truth.

The ego is the root of all diseases. Give it up.

The Ordainer controls the fate of souls in accordance with their prarabdhakarma (destiny to be worked out in this life, resulting from the balance sheet of actions in past lives). Whatever is destined not to happen will not happen, try as you may. Whatever is destined to happen will happen, do what you may to prevent it. This is certain. The best course, therefore, is to remain silent.

Guru is not the physical form. So the contact will remain even after the physical form of the Guru vanishes.

'Does free will prevail or fate?' is only for those who do not know the root of both. Those who have known the Self, the common source of freewill and of fate, have passed beyond them both and will not return to them.

Surrender is to give oneself up to the original cause of one's being.

Giving to others is really giving to oneself.

"Remain all the time steadfast in the heart. God will determine the future for you to accomplish the work. What is to be done will be done at the proper time. Don’t worry. Abide in the heart."

We are so engrossed with the objects or appearances revealed by the light that we pay no attention to the light.

Engage yourself in the living present. The future will take care of itself.

Meditation is your true nature now. You call it meditation, because there are other thoughts distracting you. When these thoughts are dispelled, you remain alone, i.e., in the state of meditation free from thoughts; and that is your real nature which you are now attempting to gain by keeping away other thoughts. Such keeping away of other thoughts is now called meditation. When the practice becomes firm, the real nature shows itself as the true meditation.

You know that you know nothing. Find out that knowledge.

There is only one state, that is consciousness, or awareness or existence. The three states of waking, dream and deep sleep cannot be real. They simply come and go. The real will always exist.

Reality is simply the loss of ego. Destroy the ego by seeking its identity. Because the ego is no entity it will automatically vanish and reality will shine forth by itself.

“Wanting to reform the world without discovering one's true self is like trying to cover the world with leather to avoid the pain of walking on stones and thorns. It is much simpler to wear shoes.”

There is never a moment when the Self is not; it is ever-present, here and now.

Find the source. You must reach the source without fail. The false `I' will disappear and the real `I' will realized. The former cannot exist apart from the latter. There is now wrong identification of the Self with the body, senses, etc. You proceed to discard these, and this is neti. This can be done only by holding to the one which cannot be discarded. That is iti[that which is].

Your business is simply to surrender and leave everything to me.

Time is only an idea. There is only the Reality. Whatever you think it is, it looks like that. If you call it time, it is time. If you call it existence, it is existence, and so on. After calling it time, you divide it into days and nights, months, years, hours, minutes, etc. Time is immaterial for the Path of Knowledge.

Transforming yourself is a means of giving light to the whole world.

Mind is consciousness which has put on limitations. You are originally unlimited and perfect. Later you take on limitations and become the mind.

Body, senses, mind, breath, sleep --All insentient and unreal --- Cannot be 'I'.

Purity of heart, self-restraint, evenness of temper, tenderness towards all beings, fortitude and freedom from desire, hatred and arrogance are the outstanding virtues of the sattvic mind.

There is no alternative for you but to accept the world as unreal if you are seeking the truth and the truth alone, for the simple reason that unless you give up the idea that the world is real your mind will always be after it.

You and I are the same. What I have done is surely possible for all. You are the Self now and can never be anything else. Throw your worries to the wind, turn within and find Peace.

ECKHART TOLLE QUOTES

'On a deeper level you are already complete. When you realize that, there is a joyous energy behind what you do.'

'Acknowledging the good that you already have in your life is the foundation for all abundance.'

“Stop looking outside for scraps of pleasure or fulfillment, for validation, security, or love – you have a treasure within that is infinitely greater than anything the world can offer.”

When you complain you make yourself a victim. Leave the situation, change the situation or accept it, all else is madness.

Nonresistance, non-judgment, and non-attachment are the three aspects of true freedom and enlightened living.

"When you wash your hands, when you make a cup of coffee, when you're waiting for the elevator - instead of indulging in thinking, these are all opportunities for being there as a still, alert presence."

Accept - then act. Whatever the present moment contains, accept it as if you had chosen it. Always work with it, not against it. Make it your friend and ally, not your enemy. This will miraculously transform your whole life.

You are not IN the universe, you ARE the universe, an intrinsic part of it. Ultimately you are not a person, but a focal point where the universe is becoming conscious of itself. What an amazing miracle.

Authentic human interactions become impossible when you lose yourself in a role.

The actual experience of awakening can only be in the present moment.

'All the things that truly matter, beauty, love, creativity, joy and inner peace arise from beyond the mind.'

'Being must be felt. It can't be thought.'

'Knowing yourself is to be rooted in Being, instead of lost in your mind.'

Be aware of your breathing. Notice how this takes attention away from your thinking and creates space.

'Some changes look negative on the surface but you will soon realize that space is being created in your life for something new to emerge.'

When you become comfortable with uncertainty, infinite possibilities open up in your life.

Compassion is the awareness of a deep bond between yourself and all creatures.

Stillness is where creativity and solutions to problems are found.

The more you live in the present moment, the more the fear of death disappears.

'Death is a stripping away of all that is not you. The secret of life is to die before you die --- and find that there is no death.'

The decision to make the present moment into your friend is the end of the ego.

Give up defining yourself - to yourself or to others. You won't die. You will come to life.

“The moment you become aware of the ego in you, it is strictly speaking no longer the ego, but just an old, conditioned mind-pattern. Ego implies unawareness. Awareness and ego cannot coexist.”

Most humans are never fully present in the now, because unconsciously they believe that the next moment must be more important than this one. But then you miss your whole life, which is never not now.

Every thought pretends that it matters so much. It wants to draw your attention in completely. Here is a new spiritual practice for you: don't take your thoughts too seriously.

“Life will give you whatever experience is most helpful for the evolution of your consciousness. How do you know this is the experience you need? Because this is the experience you are having at the moment.”

To offer no resistance to life is to be in a state of grace, ease, and lightness.

“Is there a difference between happiness and inner peace? Yes. Happiness depends on conditions being perceived as positive; inner peace does not.”

Your life has an inner purpose and an outer purpose. Inner purpose concerns Being and is primary. Outer purpose concerns doing and is secondary.

When you lose touch with inner stillness, you lose touch with yourself. When you lose touch with yourself, you lose yourself in the world.

If you get the inside right, the outside will fall into place. Primary reality is within; secondary reality without.

Instead of asking, “what do I want from life?,” a more powerful question is, “what does life want from me?"

You don't have a life, you are life. The One Life, the one consciousness that pervades the entire universe and takes temporary form to experience itself as a stone or blade of grass, as an animal, a person, a star or a galaxy.

When listening to another person, don't just listen with your mind, listen with your whole body. Feel the energy field of your inner body as you listen. That takes attention away from thinking and creates a still space that enables you to truly listen without the mind interfering. You are giving the other person space - space to be. It is the most precious gift you can give.

I emanate love and joy, complete presence and openness, toward all beings.

"Look at a tree, a flower, a plant. Let your awareness rest upon it. How still they are, how deeply rooted in Being. Allow nature to teach you stillness."

“All negativity is caused by an accumulation of psychological time and denial of the present.
Unease, anxiety, tension, stress, worry - all forms of fear - are caused by too much future, and not enough presence.
Guilt, regret, resentment, grievances, sadness, bitterness, and all forms of nonforgiveness are caused by too much past, and not enough presence.”

There are three words that convey the secret of the art of living, the secret of all success and happiness: One with Life. Being one with life is being one with Now.

The greater part of human pain is unnecessary. It is self-created as long as the unobserved mind runs your life.

The pain that you create now is always some form of nonacceptance, some form ofunconscious resistance to what is.

The past gives you an identity and the future holds the promise of salvation, of fulfillment in whaterver form. Both are illusions.

The power is in you. The answer is in you. And you are the answer to all your searches: you are the goal. You are the answer. It's never outside.

'The past has no power over the present moment.'

If the only prayer you ever say in your entire life is thank you, it will be enough.

All problems are illusions of the mind.

'You find peace not by rearranging the circumstances of your life, but by realizing who you are at the deepest level.'

“To love is to recognize yourself in another.”

"Anything that you resent and strongly react to in another is also in you."

'Life isn't as serious as the mind makes it out to be.'

“This Too Shall Pass”

Stress is caused by being 'here' but wanting to be 'there'

“The ego says, ‘I shouldn’t have to suffer,’ and that thought makes you suffer so much more. It is a distortion of the truth, which is always paradoxical. The truth is that you need to say yes to suffering before you can transcend it.”

If you had not suffered as you have, there would be no depth to you as a human being, no humility, no compassion.

When you surrender to what is and so become fully present, the past ceases to have any power. You do not need it anymore. Presence is the key. Now is the key.

"You get there by realizing you are already there."

"The realm of consciousness is much vaster than thought can grasp. When you no longer believe everything you think, you step out of thought and see clearly that the thinker is not who you are."

Strictly speaking, you don't think: Thinking happens to you.

'Rather than being your thoughts and emotions, be the awareness behind them.'

The primary cause of unhappiness is never the situation but thought about it. Be aware of the thoughts you are thinking.

Spiritual seekers look for self-realization or enlightenment in the future. To be a seeker implies that you need the future. If this is what you believe, it becomes true for you: you will need time until you realize that you don't need time to be who you are.

'In today's rush we all think too much, seek too much, want too much and forget about the joy of just Being.'

There's something in everybody that longs for that awakening to be more true to yourself.

Most humans are never fully present in the now, because unconsciously they believe that the next moment must be more important than this one. But then you miss your whole life, which is never not now.

You will be free to let go of your unhappiness the moment you recognize it as unintelligent. Negativity is not intelligent. It is always of the ego.

You cannot be both unhappy and fully present in the Now.

You are the universe, expressing itself as a human for a little while.

Life is always and only here and now. To live spiritually is to live in the state of openness to what is.

'What a liberation to realize that the “voice in my head” is not who I am. Who am I then? The one who sees that.'

“Wisdom comes with the ability to be still. Just look and just listen. No more is needed. Being still, looking, and listening activates the non-conceptual intelligence within you. Let stillness direct your words and actions.”

The world can only change from within.

'Worry pretends to be necessary but serves no useful purpose'

Do not resist the pain. Allow it to be there. Surrender to the grief, despair, fear, loneliness, or whatever form the suffering takes. Witness it without labeling it mentally. Embrace it. Then see how the miracle of surrender transmutes deep suffering into deep peace. This is your crucifixion. Let it become your resurrection and ascension.

'You are here to enable the divine purpose of the Universe to unfold. That is how important you are!'

Remain calm, serene, always in command of yourself. You will then find out how easy it is to get along.

It is not what you read that give you liberation but what you do with what you read.
